14-team draft held last night!

Postby NoExcuses » Sun Aug 15, 2010 6:26 pm

We boosted our league from 12 owners last season to 14 this season! When I first heard we were doing that I was scared that rosters would be too thin. However, I got the 13th draft position, which I felt was a good position because I would get two top-20 players for sure. The way the draft went on, since I was drafting soo early in the even-numbered rounds, and my targeted players would EASILY be available 5 or 6 spots later, I decided that I wanted to move up those 5 or 6 spots in the odd-numbered rounds. After say the 4th round, I think I made a swap every round because someone between the 3rd and 8th spots kept wanting to move up.

Some scoring differences
ESPN scoring WITH PPR.
QBs stats boosted from 4 pts to 6 pts for TDs, and punished from -2 to -3 for each INT. (TD/INT ratio important)
Also, return TDs are affiliated with the player, not the D/ST.

So I'll list my draft order and then my roster
Round-Pick (Overall) Player
1-13 (13) R. Moss WR NE At the time, Moss was the top WR and Brady was the top QB left (yes Rodgers Manning and Brees were top-10 picks)
2-2 (16) M. Schaub QB HOU The guy who picked 14th got Brady, throwing a wrench in my plan... I KNOW this was a REACH, but seriously, FOUR QBs were taken in the 1st RD.
3-8 (36) R. Grant RB GB
4-7 (49) J. Stewart RB CAR
6-1 (71) J. Maclin WR PHI
6-7 (77) J. Harrison RB CLE
7-13 (97) D. Mason WR BAL
8-1 (99) K. Walter WR HOU
8-8 (106) B. Berrian WR MIN If Favre plays, and Berrian stays healthy, 106th overall is a STEAL in PPR
11-4 (144) D. Henderson WR NO
11-7 (147) G. Olsen TE CHI
12-2 (156) C. Buckhalter RB DEN
13-4 (172) J. Jones WR HOU
14-2 (184) K. Smith RB DET
15-13 (209) D. Buehler K DAL Dallas fan here, had to sneak a Cowboy on my roster LOL
16-2 (212) ARIZONA D/ST 14-team league, I should get a D/ST in the top half of the league, right? WRONG... honestly FIVE, yes FIVE teams DRAFTED two Defenses...

QB M.Schaub

RB1 R. Grant
RB2 J. Stewart
RB3 J. Harrison
RB4 K. Smith

WR1 R. Moss
WR2 J. Maclin
WR3 D. Mason
WR4 K. Walter
WR5 B. Berrian
WR6 D. Henderson
WR7 J. Jones (HOU)

TE G. Olsen
K D. Buehler
D/ST Arizona

I had to reach on my QB and two RBs early in the draft because it was SOO wacky..but I got GREAT value from my WRs and its a PPR league, so I think I'll be happy with that... We have some idiots in this league, so if my guys stay healthy I should be able to plug-and-play some great matchups every week...

I agree, you got some great value with many of your picks. I honestly don't think Schaub was a reach at all in round 2 because A) you are in a 14 team league, and B) passing TDs = 6. I like Schaub this year as much or more than last year.

Your RBs aren't excellent PPR backs but they are still very good picks. Keep hearing good things about J Stew--you might be very happy you got him.

WRs look solid. Can't go wrong with Moss, and Maclin should improve this season. Mason is rock-steady and if Rice can't get healthy in Minnesota then Berrian should benefit from that the most.

At first I was worried about Olsen--people said Martz never used TEs in his system. I think that's because he never had a TE with the talent of Olsen. Plus I hear he's been a TD machine in camp, so I think you did just fine at TE.

I would like to see some depth behind Schaub. Not sure which QBs are left after 14 teams picked over them, but if you find a good one on waivers then pick him up. Perhaps you could sell high on Harrison as well--sounds like Hardesty is the favorite among coaches and brass to start by season's end.

Considering your draft position, league size and scoring system, I think you should be very happy with your team.

Good luck, and please see mine:

Good picks man, I just had my 14 team yesterday so I agree how CRAZY things can be when theres 14 people in one basement!!!

Only holes I see is your RB's as J-STew can be unpredictable due to D-Will still being there.
Ryan Grant doesn't get receptions that much and isnt very talented, but he'll get the carries.

I dont see Harrison or Smith having a major impact, but I'm biased since I drafted Best/Hardesty.
