wooo hooo! As a Niners fan, I am absolutely pumped at this acquisition. Westbrook is nowhere near the elite back he used to be, but he can be an efficient backup/pass catching back. Alex Smith showed the most success last yr out of the spread/shotgun offense, and Gore is less effective without a true fullback on the field blocking for him. This will allow Westbrook to come in on certain downs to protect Smith, then set up a dump off if downfield is covered for Smith. It also pushes Dixon, who will still be used, to the #3 back and will allow him to learn behind Westbrook and Gore, and hopefully be ready to take the full-time backup snaps next yr. Also, allows M-rob to stay primarily on special teams, where is successful.

As far as the title/fantasy goes, no, this does not downgrade gore at all. Westbrook has had a solid career, but he is no longer elite and is highly injury prone. Gore is still a top 5 back and will get plenty of carries. If anything, this will help Gore stay fresh throughout the season and hopefully he will be healthy for all 16 games.

No, it doesn't even flinch Gore's value. Westbrook is done, he's a nice 3rd down back in situations, but he's not even gonna come close 2 touching the impact Gore is gonna have what so ever.

Glad you think so I just sunk alot into him this year in a few leagues this year and just got 5th pick in my money league. :-o

I think it takes away more Receptions as opposed to what Coffee took last year which was carries. Gore should be fine but I still feel he takes a small hit here. More because of what Westy once was and the outside chance that he stays healthy as a 3rd down guy. If he does well it could eat into Gores production a little.

i think if anything it might actually help gores value. gore gets hurt every year for a few games so hopefully westy can keep him healthy for a full 16. we all have seen what he can do while healthy and with a better line he should reproduce last years stats but hopefully all year
Eastmont League 10-3 (2nd Seed)
Wenatchee League 9-4 (2nd Seed)
Urine Trouble League 6-7 (6th seed boooya!!!)

As a longtime Westy fan, I have to admit that he is done. He took a backseat to a rookie (McCoy) in the playoffs against Dallas last year when he was supposedly "healthy". Bad knees and concussion issues. Must practice/play on grass. The eagles let go of their players at the right time and this case is no different.
thx

So does this eliminate a Gore handcuff? If he went down would Dixon or Westbrook take more snaps? Because I have no plans of drafting an over the hill, injury prone, RB as a handcuff(as anything really).

Also wondering about this..I have Dixon handcuffed now, but with Westbrook in the mix I'm not sure if either one would be a good handcuff.

I think if Gore were to go down, I see Dixon having more value than Westy personally. I just don't know that Westbrook has enough left to be an every down back type of player and so I think they'd use him as their 3rd down and change of pace but Dixon would get the blunt of the work.
