Very specific dilemna - WHIR big time

Postby Reg » Sun Aug 22, 2010 8:11 pm

This is an edit, I had a more broad question here before, but regardless, here is my situation...

I have the 6th pick of a 10 team redraft league.

2 QBs, 6pts/passing TD and 1pt/20 passing yards.
PPR
8 rushing yards/pt

I'm discussing trading my 3th and 4th round picks for the 2nd overall pick, which would give me the 2nd and 6th overall.

I am unsure it is really what I want to do.

I definitely think it is a good trade on my part, value wise. My plan would be to take aaron rodgers with the #2 pick, and possibly brees with the 6th. 2nd round, 14th pick overall, I think I could probably get steven jackson. If brees was gone at #6, I would take the remaining of the top 4 RBs. 2nd round, I could either grab my 2nd QB or another quality RB, maybe receiver depending on the options.

The reason I hesitate is because I would have a huge gap between picks in the 2nd and 5th round. Normally I would be ok with that, but this league drafts very strangely for some reason, with people making some odd picks here and there. I know there will be some huge value in those early rounds that I would hate to pass up. I'm finding it a bit hard to compare possible outcomes, and my mind is going numb trying to look at all different combos of players/picks etc.

I'm also a bit scared about filling my lineup later than everyone. If I get 2 qbs with those first 3 picks, I'll only have 1 WR or 1 RB going into round 5. Hopefully I would luck out with a decent WR1 and RB1, but not sure how safe that it would be. If I don't make the trade, I'm not sure what I would do about quarterbacks. At the 6 spot, I don't know what will be left. I would be hoping for at least brees or rodgers. If they aren't there, not really sure what direction I would go

If anyone could give me any suggestions or feedback I would really appreciate it, and will definitely help with any of your threads in return

what would you do, what what would be your strategy?

if you think you can get brees and rodgers in a 2QB/6pt passing TD league, do it.

you will terrorize. PPR deepens the WR pool a little. there are RB values in the middle rounds of this year's draft. i think you could recover from missing your 3rd and 4th rounders.

That is a tough one. I think in a 2 QB league with Rodgers and Brees you would CRUSH people but you certainly do run a risk with no 3rd and 4th rd. pick. I have never drafted a 2 QB or PPR league for that matter, but I think you would be almost better off drafting a WR1 with your 2nd rd. pick and focus on RBs in 5 and after. With the sheer number of RBBC situations out there I think there's significant depth at RB if you look more to the Stewart, Bradshaw, Greene, Charles, Foster, etc. type of players in the 5th.

Help with mine?

a WR in the 2nd round is definitely a possibility. Plenty of the top tier guys(minus andre) would be there to pick from. I just have a feeling maybe a better RB will be there. I guess its more important to see who might be left in the 5th round though. I'm hoping for a steve smith. For running backs I have no friggin idea, thats whats scaring me, which is why I was thinking to take one early.

Its such a harder decision starting 2 QBs. I want to get 2 early so I'm not stuck with anyone or forced to make a run. But like I said I'll only have one other position player until round 5, where in a standard league I would wait on a QB and I'd have 4 guys by round 5 lol. scary.

driving me crazy lol

I think you should pull the trigger on this 1, especially with a 2 QB league. If you use your top 2 picks on QB, then there will be a deffinate feeling by everyone else in the draft to get busy drafting QBs There could be more value than usual in the middle rds.

I agree with those saying do it, with one huge BUT: what do you do if someone gets to Brees before you do at 6? Will you take Manning and say "good enough"? Or are you specifically focused on those two guys? And if anyone is thinking like you, will Manning be gone too? No guarantees at 6, you know? Good luck, hope it works out!

well if brees is gone, I do think manning would still be there. I would take him or one of the top 4 RBs that was there. I might even prefer the RB to manning.

I also forgot to mention that in my league we have a WR/RB flex spot for rookies only. If I go QB-QB in the first round, I could possibly take ryan matthews in the 2nd round and almost guarantee those 3 roster spots will outperform anyone elses by far. But then again, he could fall to the 3rd round, but I wouldn't be able to find out lol

Do it and grab the 2 QBs if they're there. I would even take Manning if Brees is gone over the RB. Can get a solid #2 RB with #1 upside in the 2nd and in a PPR league with QBs like that 3 #3WRs will do you fine. I also agree with the guy who said you might set off a run on QBs that will allow some unexpected talent to fall to you.

Help?
