Offered trade for #1 pick in 14-team PPR League

Postby broomulack » Sat Aug 28, 2010 11:32 am

I have the #1 pick in a 14-team PPR league, redraft with no keepers. I've been offered the #12 pick in the 1st round, along with his 3rd round pick (#40) for the #1 and my 10th round pick (140). This gives me 4 picks in the top 40 players and since I'm on the turn with the #1 pick I don't have to wait hours for my pick in the 10th round - my second one immediately follows.

What do you guys think? I'm thinking I get Moss/Wayne at #12, and maybe a good RB or top QB at #40 where that guy then ends up with handcuffs, a defense or backup players at #140.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I do not like this deal for you. The first 4 picks are worth quite a bit this year. Maybe, if you were able to get his 1st and 2nd round picks, I would do the deal. You could sweeten it by giving him your 8th rounder instead of the 10th.

I wouldn't trade down from the number 1 spot without a second rounder back.

Thanks guys, my thinking was that in a 14 team league the 6th round on is going to be a struggle, why not get an extra player early. You're right, I do need to get a higher pick. Thanks.

In the later rounds, just go after your "sleepers." There are players that Yahoo/ESPN under-rates, and feel free to go after those players. As far as after the 6th, I'd look for guys like Michael Bush, Arian Foster, Ahmad Bradshaw, Kareem Huggins, Montario Hardesty, Malcolm Floyd, Johnny Knox, Jabar Gaffney, Jacoby Jones, any late round flier TE etc etc. I would do some research into your later rounds, because that can be the difference in a winning team and a losing one.

Trust me, I've got my sleepers, undervalued guys and all others researched - but given the opportunity to have 4 picks in the first 40, I have to think about it. That's one less guy I have to take a chance on....lol

I think that there is a decent amount of talent available later in the draft. And I know the desire for consistency and guaranteed production, I just finished a 14 team draft myself. But I don't think its worth the trade off.

For what it's worth, here are the late first round picks from my 14-team non-PPR league:

...
9. Andre Johnson This one's f...
10. Shonn Greene Packer Sackers
11. Drew Brees FavreSmugglers
12. Ryan Grant Dutch Oven
13. Ryan Mathews Fighting Whi...
14. Reggie Wayne Hurricane Bi..

... and the beginning of the second:

1. Rashard Mendenhall Hurricane Bi...
2. Steven Jackson Fighting Whi...
3. Randy Moss Dutch Oven
4. Calvin Johnson FavreSmugglers
5. Larry Fitzgerald Packer Sackers
6. DeAngelo Williams This one's f...

...the end of the third:

9. Jahvid Best This one's f...
10. Matt Schaub Packer Sackers
11. Anquan Boldin FavreSmugglers
12. Jamaal Charles Dutch Oven
13. Arian Foster Fighting Whi...
14. Beanie Wells Hurricane Bi...

...and the end of the tenth:

10. Eddie Royal SailingTheSe...
11. Austin Collie Sach's Snatches
12. Lee Evans Motor City M...
13. David Akers Disembowelers
14. Tim Hightower Steamers
(followed by Bryant, Sproles, Prater)

So, in my league anyways, you'd be giving up CJ/ADP & Hightower for Brees/Grant/Mathews and Boldin/Charles/Foster.

I really like the idea of trading up for an extra pick in the top 40. If you could get the second rounder instead of the third, then I think you do it. Like the poster above, I would improve the counter from a 10th to an 8th, but not any more than that.

Countered 1,8 for 1,2 - he denied and countered 1, 6, 10 for 1, 3, 5 and I accepted. I'll have my skill positions filled by round 5 (7 picks in the first 5 rounds) and barring injuries I should be stacked.

Thanks for the help guys.
