14 Team Auction - What Happened!? Help...(WHIR!)

Postby phorts » Mon Aug 30, 2010 9:19 pm

I'm the commish of a 14 team league that decided to switch to Auction this year. As the commish, i decided that I would be the Auctioneer and with 13 other teams who had never done an auction league before noone knew what to expect.

$200 Budget - 1 Keeper

Start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE, 1 RB/WR, 1 K, 1 DST, 5 Bench
Standard Scoring w/ 6pt TD + Return YDS/TD's

QB: Brady
RB: D. Williams/S. Greene (Keeper)
WR: C. Johnson/W. Welker
FLEX: C. Williams? (Ugh)
TE: J. Finley - $17
K: R. Bironas
DEF: Cincinatti
BN: D. Brown/M. Hardesty/B. Scott/M. Williams (TB)/V. Jackson

I could give you the long story of how i ended up with these guys, but the short version is i tried to set the market on players and ended up getting "stuck" with them (Brady, Welker, D Williams, V Jax). This not only threw off my strategy, budget and night, but i also didnt have enough money at the end of the draft where deals were being had left and right.

I dont LOVE my team, but i think i can make some moves to improve it by selling depth for starters or downgrade Brady for a mid QB and a starter. I dunno.

I got a couple deals i'm thining about right now: (Both of which i'm somewhat sure i can get done)

1: Trade Welker and Brady for Frank Gore: Probably not advisable but i can replace Brady with an Alex Smith or a Chad Henne for pretty cheap and Welker with Mike Williams (TB) or one of a bunch of WR on Waivers throughout the season. But a Starting LIneup of Gore/Williams/Greene is pretty damn tastey sounding

2. D Williams and C. Williams for Ray Rice - Again, pissed i didnt want for RIce (even though he probably would have been bid up more if i was invvolved) but i can find a new Flex

If i get BOTH done then i'm starting Rice, Gore and Greene... give me Jamarcus Russel i dont care i'm OK w/ that.
Or should i just calm down and make some small deals to get a team that i can be more excited about?

SOmeone help me off the ledge!

Think your team can use some work. ... Your instincts are right and you need to work out a trade. Trade option 1 is terrible.... Gore is great but he gets hurt too often. I wouldn't give up Brady for him in a 6td pts league anyway. Trade 2 I really like..... D Will is solid but C Will is worthless..... I guess you want to use him at a flex but the man just doesn't score enough. If I could get a stud like Rice I would do that in a heartbeat. Caddy should be EASY to replace on the waiver wire.

You might want to explore other options though. Maybe make a trade for A. Foster? I think Joseph Addai could work as flex as well.... Tim Hightower is a better option than Caddy and can be picked up for a song. Try to snag someone UNDERvalued.
16 Team w/ Flex, Non-ppr, All TDs 6

QB - Stafford, Cutler
RB - MJD, Best, Lynch, D. Carter
WR - Nicks, Britt, Benn, D. Moore
TE - Graham
K - Henery
D - Jets

Hey Man...I dont know the ins and outs of how Dynasty leagues work, but I wanted to hit you back for your helpful review of my roster.

I can't comment on picks related to dynasty value so I'll just give you an overview of what I see on your team.

Obviously your RBs are a tad on the shallow side..personally love Deangelo, but after after that there isn't much to hang your hat on. I do think there is some depth there, and anyone of those guys could emerge, but for now you'll have to sit back and hope things develop as you probably know.

Brady at QB is nice...he is a borderline tier 1 QB IMO and could easily go on a tear and carry you for a bit.

WRs are your strongest area at this point...I love the Johnson, Finley, Welker combo. I live in NE and from what I've seen Welker looks ready go without hesitation. Calvin is due for a big year IMO. Detroit has a decent set of weapons in town and think you'll see a lot of scoring from him. Absolutely love love love Finley, and from what I hear he'll be lining up in the slot from time to time, so he is virtually another wideout...wish I was able to land him but someone grabbed him in the 5th. Would love to see Mike Williams make an impact this year...love his upside....if V.Jax decides to show up you are golden there.

If you can pull of those trades you mentioned I would bye into that. The combo you mentioned (Gore, Greene, Rice) would be beastly, and your right - no QB necessary.

Anyway you decide to slice it Good Luck!!

Thanks for your help. No Dynasty, just an Auction (I took the values out so I wouldn't confuse anyone else but figured the action part was relevant since people would probably wonder how i got Brady/Greene/D Williams and C Johnson in a 14 team snake, lol).

I'm liking the Gore deal less and less, so i'll probably hold off on that. Gore is his only prize posession (his starting QB is Sanchez and his #2 WR is Devin Thomas from WAS..LOL!). But i need to let the dust settle and some of the hype wear off on Gore (Highest paid player in draft at $63..yikes).

If i get the Rice deal done then i'll like my tteam a WHOLE lot better as i think i can find a Flex somewhere in a trade. We'll see what happens.

ANy other advice is very welcome and i will help you in return!

Thank You!

I wouldn't be so down on your team. I like it. Your WRs are very nice. I love Calvin and Welker and Finley looks to be a beast. The Brady to Welker connection will pay nice dividends for you. I would not do trade 1. It gives you a nice trio of RBs, but hurts you overall IMO. Brady will be very solid, especially in a TD heavy league. I do like trade 2 for you. Starting Rice and Greene is a heck of tandem. Go for it ;-D

I think this is a great team... especially for 14 man. People are undervaluing welker right now and I think he will be a solid WR2 for you. As is obvious, you ar ea little weak at RB3 but I think with the depth you have you can use a by committe approach based on matchups. Overall I would give your team a B+
