Don't feel great about my draft... Talk me down!

Postby hammertoes » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:00 am

I'm in a 10 team, 4 player keeper league. Standard scoring, no PPR, 6 pt passing TDs. Due to trades I had back to back picks in the third and no pick in the fifth. There were a total of 38 players kept, including the top 8 QBs.

Here's how my draft went:

1-F. Gore (keeper)
2-A. Johnson (keeper)
3-S. Smith-NY
3-M. Crabtree
4-J. Flacco
6-T. Gonzalez
7-J. Stewart (keeper)
8-TJ Housh
9-B. Jacobs
10-E. Manning
11-T. Hightower
12- 49ers DST
13- Cowboys DST
14- K. Winslow
15-N. Kaeding
16- D. Williams (keeper)

I liked my draft up until the 6th, when my man crush Jermichael Finley was snagged just before I was about to take him, but I was satisfied with Gonzalez.

I hated my picks in round 8 and 9. I was looking for another WR in round 8 and was thoroughly unimpressed with what was left, and Housh was the best on the board. I held my nose and took him figuring that at least he's the #1WR on his team (which may no longer be the case) and maybe I can pick up a sleeper WR later.

In round 9 I found that I had lost all my games of chicken. There were a bunch of RBs I had found in doing mocks that were falling (Cadillac, Foster, M. Bush, Forsett, F. Jackson, Bradshaw) and I liked all of them. By this point they were all gone, much to my chagrin. I was ok with taking Jacobs here since it was a pretty good value, but I was dissappointed that all my pseudo-sleepers were gone.

By my pick in the 13th, I realized that there wasn't a single RB or WR left that I thought was worth drafting. I NEVER take a backup DST or TE, but I couldn't find anything better. Since the draft I have picked up Sidney Rice to stash on my bench, and I'll drop either Winslow or the Cowboys.

I don't know, I look at my roster and it's not terrible, I just don't feel great about it (although last year I thought my team was stacked and I finished 8th!)

I think you're gold at RB and you have the best WR in the league. You're other WRs aren't dominant but they will give you points each week and maybe have a couple of big games. I didn't follow Winslow last year, but I would drop him (or plan on it, for a sleeper WR) since Gonzalez should start every week for you anyway.

I don't think your QBs are Tier 1 but they do have the potential to be. Flacco has a lot of weapons this year in WRs, TEs and RBs that can catch.

Looks like Jacobs will be the #2 RB in NY but I wouldn't mind having a healthy 265 RB down the stretch.

I'd try to find a way to work out a trade for a good WR2, borderline WR1 (and who knows, Crabtree could step up). Other than that, it looks like a good team.

I would disagree with gold but your alright at RB. You do have the best WR so that his a big plus, but after him it falls off quick. I would look to upgrade there.
