10 Team PPR Keeper - Can this team be beat??? WHIR..

Postby AJPennSt » Sat Sep 04, 2010 9:04 am

This league is going on 8 years running and the rule has always been you keep your best player regardless of tenure and one player that has 4 years or less of experience going into the season. I draft Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice in their rookie years so that's worked out well. Last year I was the last team out of the 4 team playoff. Outside of Brady, Rice, Peterson, and Fitz I was riddled with injuries. I was able to pick Fitzgerald back up with my 5th pick after the keepers were announced. QB's are not as valuable (1 pt every 100 yards) and people were reaching for QB's big time. 3 teams had their backup QB's by round 8 which forced my hand to pick Cutler around there and I came back around with Big Ben the next pick. I ended up with my top two rated defenses as well. Let me know what you think..

QB - Jay Cutler, Ben Roethlisberger, Chad Henne
RB - Adrian Peterson (keeper), Ray Rice (keeper), Matt Forte, Michael Bush, Larry Johnson
WR - Larry Fitzgerald, Marques Colston, Dwayne Bowe, Malcolm Floyd, Devin Aromashadu
TE - Antonio Gates, Dustin Keller
K - Dan Carpenter
DEF - New York Jets, New Orleans Saints

If Cutler doesn't do very well in the first few weeks and while Big Ben get back in the groover, you could easily find yourself with several losses. You do have a very good team, but don't be dumb and act like you can't lose and give your team lackluster attention all year.

I hear you on that. I didn't feel that it was worth it to reach for a QB after the top 7 especially because the league doesn't lend itself to being very QB-eccentric. There are rushing/receiving yards, points per receptions, etc. Quarterbacks get 1 pt per hundred yards and your standard 6 points per td and -2 per interception. I'm hoping Martz can help improve Cutler's stats. The top 3 QB's were unavailable due to keepers and the next 4 flew off the boards pretty quickly. Unless I drafted Brady over Fitzgerald I didn't feel I had much of a choice. After missing the playoffs last year I'm not taking anything for granted, although I feel good about my chances..

I am growing to be more and more of a fan of Cutler...once again. I think he will have a pretty good year. I think he could be a top QB if his interceptions would drop...but in the offensive system he's in you can prolly expect them to go up. I wouldn't worry about it all too much because with Peterson and Rice, you will get quite a lot of points.

How come if QBs only get one point per 100 yards and 6 for tds did they fly off the board so fast? Im not getting it. You say they are not worth a $hit then everyone was drafting them early?

That's definitely a pretty solid team, and i love forte (even though he'll be on your bench). I'm not in love with your WR...a lot of potential there, but a lot of bust potential as well with fitz qb situation, colston may or may not have really recovered from his injury, and bowe yet to produce...but that's mostly nitpicking. I'd probably drop your backup TE or DEF and grab someone like jacoby jones or james jones or another sleeper type WR as that to me is your weakest spot.

mind helping with mine?

I think Fitz will be fine in a PPR format as they will try and get him the ball on short routes but I understand the concern. I think Malcolm Floyd and Aromashadu are sleeper types that should fill in fine but I appreciate the feedback! AS far as the quarterback situation - that's a great question. It used to be QB's didnt get any points until 250 yards and a vote passed for every 100 yards. I guess the upgrade (albeit a small one) pushed people to pick up QB's quickly. There are also a lot of guys who pick with their hearts and not their brains..
