I don't know whether to upgrade my TE or sit tight on what I have
My buddy finished the draft with both Dallas Clark and Antonio Gates. He needs RB help. It's a standard 10-team ESPN non-PPR league.
After my draft I wound up with the following RBs:
Shonn Green Arian Foster CJ Spiller Ahmad Bradshaw Cadillac Williams
My tight end is Brent Celek
The question for me is this:
My 3 options: 1) offer CJ Spiller for Antonio Gates, upgrading TE and perhaps use Celek in a trade elsewhere 2) offer Arian Foster for Antonio Gates 3) sit tight, don't seek Antonio Gates, and use my depth of young 2nd and 3rd round RB's to make up for lack of a 1st round RB.
I think it depends on the rest of your team, how many RBs you can start, and what your WRs look like. If you're starting 3 RBs and trade Foster or Spiller, I'd be a little worried about Williams as your only backup. If you only start 2 RBs, you should definitely be able to make a move. With Celek on your team, a TE upgrade isn't really necessary and you may be better off making a different move, like upgrading at WR.
That said, if you feel like you're set at other positions and can move Celek later, I think Spiller for Gates would be good value but I'd be hesitant to trade Foster. So, either offer Spiller for Gates or sit tight with your RB depth.
Celek isn't Gates, but Celek isn't bad by any means. I say hold tight on that trade. You have 3 good backs in Greene, Foster, and Bradshaw who's now the starter in NY. Maybe you can find better value for CJ Spiller elsewhere, or find a trade with Greene for a more proven RB.
I say hold tight also. You are stacked at RB and Celek is darn good. If Celek plays well, you may be able to get something even more valuable as the seaon gets underway.
12 Team League. We start 2 QBs and get .5 PPR, otherwise standard scoring QBs: Stafford, Fitzpatrick, Collins RBs: Charles, Mendenhall, Best, Starks, Carter, Karim WRs: D. Jackson, Marshall, S. Smith, Green, TE: Hernandez, Cook

Assuming you can start only 2 RBs with no flex, I would try and deal Spiller for either TE. I would hold onto Foster regardless.
I should have noted that my league starts 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR. My WR situation is good with Andre Johnson, Jennings, Gaffney, Mike Wallac (Pitts) and Jacoby Jones...so my view is that I have decent depth at WR
I'm beginning to think you make the deal for Gates. Gates could be huge this year with Jax gone. And you do have good depth, so it's worth the risk. I would do Spiller, not Foster though. I like Foster a bit more than Spiller

Replying from the other thread....I agree you may not have a RB1, but you have a lot of similar RBs...guys who all have good upside. I like Spiller, but I actually aren't sure I like him that much more than Bradshaw. In fact, not sure who I would rather have at this point. I like Bradshaw. I think Gates will score more points than Celek. I can't say which of your Rbs will score the most points. That's why I lean to the deal. Or you could trade a couple of your Rbs for a stud RB1 if someone is hurting at RB depth.
