No TD for C. martin

Postby drillers » Sat Nov 22, 2003 10:11 am

A question for those who saw the Jets play lately

Does Curtis Martin get any touches in goal line situation, or do they always go with L. jordan.

Thank you

I dont watch them, but I think jordan gets all the goalline touches. If he doesn't, CMart would most likely have a TD by now.

Martin has taken a back seat to Lamont Jordan in short yardage and inside the 10 yard line opportunities. Jordan does have a broken finger, though is expected to play with a soft cast. Tough to figure when Martin will break out of his season long TD drought.

Living in NJ, I get the dubious honor of seeing all the Jets games. I'll say, Curtis Martin is running very well. He looks like a very capable and effective back with breakaway speed. MUCH better than he looked the first couple games. If he got goal line touches, I guarantee he'd be a top 15 back.

Sooner or later, you'd figure, C-Mart will bust through a big hole, break a tackle or two, and be in the end zone on the end of a 40 yard run. Sooner or later.

He's at 746 rushing yards for the season this year, on pace for 1198 yards. That would be his 9th straight year with 1000 yards, and he's been in the league for just 9 years -- that's freaky if you ask me.

But his TD production is an enigma. His fewest TDs in a year thus far came in 1997 with the Pats when he played 13 games (4 rush TDs, 1 rec TD) and again in 1999 with the Jets (5 rushing TDs). This year he has none, of either variety.

FYI, 1999 was the year Ray Lucas was the starting QB in New York, they finished 8-8, but didn't really do all that much scoring, and Keyshawn had a great year just before he got shipped out, stealing TDs from C-Mart, Key had 1000 yards and 8 TDs in '99. And the Jets, mediocre as they were that year, did manage to beat the evil Dolphins twice, as with many years.

Duckett is higher ranked in my league. I think it was an OK move by the kid.
