Gaffney or Steve Smith (car) in week1? =WHIR=

I know it sounds ridiculous to sit Steve Smith (CAR) for Jabar Gaffney, but I was listening to the CBS fantasy guys and they were both FOR starting Gaffney this week against Jacksonville rather starting Steve Smith(CAR) against the Giants Defense. This is my first season in fantasy so this is all pretty new. I know some managers like to "go with your studs" and others "play the matchups game." What do you think? Is this crazy? Should I start my "stud"? or do you project Gaffney to tear it up this week and get more fantasy pts than Steve Smith? This is a non-PPR 12 team standard Y! league that I'm in.

Although Gaffney has a better matchup this week I would still start Smith. He is gonna get a lot of looks because they don't have a whole lot else. The main reason I would start him is because if I didn't and he had a big game I would regret it more than if Gaffney did.

I could see Denver spreading the ball around as well as running often against a poor Jags D. If memory serves me right Matt Moore and Steve Smith had a good connection last year. In short, I'd take my chances with Smith this week. He's by far the most reliable WR on Carolina.

I think you need to start Smith, dude is beastly, Gaffney is a journeyman.

I would definitely start S. Smith. This is one of those situations where you stick with your studs.

For as attractive a match up that Gaffney has; I'd rather start Smith, being as he's the primary weapon through the air for Carolina. If he was facing someone like Revis; I'd say to go Gaffney, but I think he can still put up points while facing Webster or Thomas. Steve Smith is my pick.

I would never sit my stud unless I have a very good 2nd choice with a more favorable matchup. In this case you do not. Gaffney may very well have a big game but most of the time you are better off sticking to your proven studs.
