Wisconsin is a completely different team on the road than at Camp Randall and haven't won in Ann Arbor since 1994. If you told me to make a pick, I'd still pick Wisconsin but I think it will be a close game.
Like Stanford, I don't think either Wisky or tOSU will have enough juice to leapfrog the two goofy unbeaten teams ahead of them. I suppose it's possible, but I highly doubt it. I'd say Nebraska, even with their loss to a piss poor Texas team, has a better chance of leapfrogging tweedle dee and tweedle dum should Oregon or Auburn lose. Nebraska still has #19 Texas A&M, a poor Colorado team, and then the Big 12 championship against OU or OSU. Both of which should continue to climb up the rankings over the next couple weeks if they keep winning. Wisky only has Michigan and Northwestern left. And while tOSU still has #20 Iowa, after that they just have Michigan. I don't think that will be enough for either team. And honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see Iowa pull that game out next week.
Also, for some reason I spaced that it was Auburn that beat LSU. LSU won't be leapfrogging anyone either since they wont be playing in the SEC title game.
Mathematically Nebraska still has a shot at the MNC game, but we do not want it. Our team is so hot-and-cold that we could be embarrassed on a national stage the likes of which we haven't been since the Callahan years.
This team has no strong senior leadership. Our seniors are either bumbling idiots (Niles Paul) or awesome but very quiet (Roy Helu). We'll be just fine to win out (not guaranteed against A&M and OU/OSU) and play in the Fiesta Bowl. Right now that pairing is against Pitt, and I'd be just fine with that - we haven't played a patsy in a bowl game in forever, and Pitt's AD is Steve Pederson, the idiot who hired Bill Callahan. I'd love to trounce his school on national TV.
It's interesting how different your mindset is than mine knapp. I think that has much to do with your team already having 5 claimed national titles in their back pocket and a history of winning. Being an Oregon fan with 0 national titles and a history of mostly not winning, I'd be more than happy to just make an appearance in a national title game. Obviously I want to win one more than anything, but just getting there would be huge.
I get what you're saying Knapp, but honestly, I would always want a shot at the National Championship. Maybe you'll get embarrassed, but the positive of winning it certainly outweighs the negatives of losing badly in it.
Yeah, that came across wrong. I guess what I'm saying is that we're not worthy this year more than I'm saying I don't want to go. Given the chance, of course I'd take that shot. And there've been a couple of times in the last week where I've sat down and tried to figure who has to lose to get us there (and it's not terribly far-fetched, just highly unlikely). What I'm really saying is that there are teams out there, like Oregon, Auburn, Boise and TCU that have a better argument for playing in the MNC game. If they fall, I'll take their spot, no problem.
