Week 2 - A. Foster over Mendenhall.. or hell, Gore?

Postby vincentp83 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:16 am

So I started Arian Foster as a risk on one of my teams because my other RB choices were Beanie Wells (I know, stupid) and C.J Spiller. Wow. What a week. He literally won me my game. I don't expect quite the repeat performance, however he will get top spot for my RB2 over either of those two guys.

It's my other team that's the problem. I have Gore/Mendenhall/Foster. I started Gore/Mendenhall in Week 1 and Foster made them both look stupid - especially after San Fran's depressing performance against Seattle. So what now? Mendenhall is a great RB, IMO, and I don't know what SF team is going to show up this week against New Orleans. Would you start Foster at Washington over either one of those guys? Was his Week 1 performance a fluke? I'm pretty torn.

I would play foster over those guys, until he proves his stats wrong. Play all three if you can.

Foster had a fantastic start to the year - but all he's accomplished for purposes of the long term is to get rid of the "overhyped" label. Now he's just another very good back in an offense that will score points. Feel good about the fact that you have 3 reliable RB's to choose from, but don't give that outburst more credit than it deserves. The question each week is still "who has the best chance to put up a big number for me?"

Houston attempted 17 passes last week. 17! That's less than a typical half for them. Meantime they ran 40 times, and Foster got 33 carries. Will he get 33 carries again? I doubt it. It's not like they want to become a running team, but they now have the capacity to run when the situation (or the matchup) calls for it. Indy is not a good run defense, and when they lost Sanders it just got worse. Next up is Washington, who looked very good against the Dallas running game.

PIT is @ TEN, and SF is v. NO. I see Houston throwing to set up the run with Foster getting goal line work, and I see SF running and throwing to the backs because Alex Smith v. the NO secondary is a bad idea for the Niners. I'd be most worried about the Steeler running game right now. Take away that long OT run by Mendy, and they weren't very good against an average defense...and the Titans D is better. Gore and Foster would be my choices here. Good luck!

I would take Gore (every week, no matter what), and Foster if I could only play 2. Until I am shown otherwise I am riding the Foster train all the way towards playoffville!

Thanks everyone. I think I've got a better idea of what to do now from the input. Just wish I had the slots to start all three of them ;-D
