Selling high on Foster WHIR

Postby BearsFan65 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 1:15 pm

12 team PPR league. All TD's = 6. My roster:

QB - E Manning, K Orton
RB - ADP, R Mathews, A Foster
WR - R White, D Bowe, M Floyd, J Gaffney, Jac Jones
TE - Z Miller
DEF - NYJets
K - R Gould

I would have liked to see better things from Mathews against KC. My biggest concern is that he didn't see the field in the last couple of drives when SD had to score. I don't know if there was an issue because of the fumble he lost or what, but it concerns me enough to wonder if I should hold off on selling Foster just yet. However....if I were to sell high now, here's a possible target:

QB - Schaub
RB - Wells, Forsett, R Bush, Jacobs
WR - R Moss, Austin, Garcon, Walter, S Rice
TE - Shiancoe

My offer here would be Foster + J Jones for Austin + RB. I see Jones being of slightly more value to him than anyone else because he has Schaub. He would also essentially have the entire Houston offense every week.

Question 1: Which of his RB's balances that trade?
Question 2: Wait another week or two to see how Mathews plays out?

WHIR, thanks!

He's not going to want to be that dependent on one team unless he's a crazy Texans fan or something. It'll make him hit or miss all season, which will cost him wins + he'll be in bad shape on their bye week.

Now, that said, throw in Gaffney with Foster instead and you're still looking in the right direction. I'd honestly see if you can get Moss + Wells. It's definitely possible. Some people will view Foster as an RB1 after that opening week, while others will still be skeptical and have him as an RB2 or even RB3 until further proof -- but the whole point is to test how high you can see, and that's guys roster makes it look like he's DESPERATE for a RB upgrade.

Thanks for your help on mine. I gotta be honest I think you should sit tight. Ryan Matthews is for sure SD's primary back and he was off the field because they needed to make quick downfield progress and he isnt an established blocker yet. However Arian Foster is awesome too. With the Amount of targets White gets + your other WR's I personally think you are sitting pretty. RB is a significant downgrade, PPR or not from Foster, who will be getting the carries AND receptions just like Bush, and the boost you would get from Austin over one of your other recievers I don't see as validating this trade. I also really like Jacoby Jones this season, but thats just me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I guess I'm seeing it differently. I have to sit one of ADP, Mathews, or Foster every week. Or I could be sitting two of Floyd, Bowe, Gaffney every week if I made this deal. I'll allow that I'm stacked at RB even in bye weeks if I make no deal. But that's three weeks out of a 13 week season. Meantime, I have one stud WR playing, two stud RB's playing, and one stud RB on the bench in the other 10 weeks. Isn't it better to have two stud WR's and two stud RB's in the lineup for those 10 weeks?

I agree that he probably won't want too much put on Houton offense. One let down and his team is stumped for a week. I'd probably sit on Foster. I was actually worried with my opponent having Mathews and a short deficit in our scores but he was left out of the offense. Mathews is similar to something with recent Dallas running game. A lot of backs to spread it around to. I wouldn't consider him a stud just yet.

I just traded Arian Foster for Calvin Johnson and Matt Forte. I like Miles Austin as much as Calvin and more than Randy. It's a tough drop from Foster to Wells but you could certainly do worse. I'd say that's selling Foster for what his current MV is worth which is about as high as it could possibly get right now.

If he doesnt do that, go after the Andre Johnson owner and try to get him and a solid RB as he's probably feeling pretty low on AJ on account of Foster's beastliness. Defenses won't let Foster walk all over them after this debut which means AJ will be freed up again to dominate.

good luck.

I think there's something to be said about having a very strong backup running back, because it lets you play favorable matchups. That being said, you do have room to improve on your WRs. I would say offer Foster+Gaffney to get Moss and Wells or Austin and Wells. If he won't trade Wells, I would say offer Foster+Jones for Moss and Bush or Austin and Bush.

I'm really not sold on Wells, with his injury and split time with Hightower he might be unreliable for a backup. I think Bush is the next strongest option, in a PPR league. It was clear that when New Orleans wanted to spread the field, pass the ball, and get ahead in the game they used Bush exclusively. When they had the lead and needed to control the ball, they used Thomas.

I have Mathews and Foster. I've been shopping both. I've been offered Austin/McCoy for Foster/Meachem and Schaub/Bush for Mathews/Cutler. Trading one makes sense and I am gonna get what I can for Mathews I think. I have a post about it.

I also have foster and am looking to sell high...however I don't think there is any upside to trading with this guy. Maybe there is another trade you can make somewhere else in your league? I have had a straight up trade offer for R. Rice to consider in my league...maybe you can get something similarly as strong if you have someone panicking?
