I'VE BEEN OFFERED A HUGE TRADE. WANT SOME OPINIONS. WHIR!!

Postby dtownsound8 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:59 pm

I've been offered his Andre Johnson, Pierre Thomas, and Mohamed Massaquoi for my Ryan Matthews and Myles Austin

I'm thinking about rejecting this because of this logic:

* I have no need for Massaquoi. If I'm to grab an extra reciever, it would be for a better #2, but after mid season, Sidney Rice should be back so I'm not entirely concerned there. The back-ups I have are good enough to sit in. If anything, I have too many.

* While the thought of having Andre Johnson on my team sounds awesome I think Arian Foster proved that the Texans don't have to air it out as much. Is he still elite? Absolutely but I think you have to take him down a notch now. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about having both AJ and Foster on my team. That's putting a lot of eggs in one basket. If the Texans have a bad week, my chances of winning that week would be drastically reduced. I'm interested to see what you guys think about this. Any aruements against this thought process?

* Myles Austin should do even better this year than last with the addition of Dez Bryant. Dez has proven himself to be someone Defenses need to keep an eye on meaning they won't be able to stack everyone on Austin.

* I'm still sold on Ryan Matthews. San Diego looked like crap yesterday but I wonder how much of that was the atmosphere and the weather. Absolutely terrible game for them and despite some terrible blocking, he still looked good. Not sure why they were giving Sproles the goalline carries but I'm thinking that comes to a halt after seeing how terrible he looked. I can't decide if I like Pierre Thomas better. Seems to me like he'll have some really strong weeks and some terrible weeks given that NO spreads the ball around so much.

So...

being that I have no need for Massaquoi this trade looks like Andre Johnson and Pierre Thomas for Myles Austin and Ryan Mathews.

It's not a bad offer but I'm leaning towards turning it down.

What do you think?

Tough call, but I would turn it down as well. I didn't see too much of Mathews (gladly, as my opponent had him) but I wouldn't count him out yet. To me it seems like that other person wants Austin and Mathews and threw in Massaquoi just to make it look better, but as you said, you can factor him out. I think at this point I trust Austin more than Johnson (knowing that he's still going to produce, Austin is easily the best option if Dallas needs points whereas Foster is now an option with Houston).

I'm **considering** countering with Myles Austin + Knowshon Moreno for Andre Johnson and Pierre Thomas

I'm not even sure if I like that. The more and more I think about it, the better I feel about having Austin + Foster than AJ + Foster

Then again... that would be a nice lift at the RB/WR slot

hmmmmmmmmmm.....

I don't like the trade option...I too am sold on Matthews and Austin! I do see your idea of the counter as being appealing though....good luck!

I don't really see the point in making the 1st trade. The tradeoff at WR/RB is negligible between Johnson/Austin and Matthews/Thomas and as you've already said, you have no use for Massaquoi. I like you're second offer a lot better and would definitely try to make that happen.

Maybe you could help with mine?

Since when is the tradeoff between Johnson and Miles negligible? It's not.

Take the deal if it's still there. You're robbing him. Massaquoi would be the 2nd most reliable WR on your roster until Rice gets back. This a complete no brainer for me. Matthews has a chance to be great, but you know what you're gonna get from PT and it's a lot of snaps in a terrific offense.

Thanks for the feedback. Would having Arian Foster and Andre Johnson on the same team bother you being that they both play for the Texans?

Matthews is a huge question mark, he is a rookie, a rookie on a team that only looks effective when they pass the ball. I may be out of my mind and i know there has only been one game, but it looks to me like the rushing production problem in San Diego was not LT. They tried and tried to get the ground game moving in KC and couldn't get it done. These are signs of bad things to come. Further, foster is also a question mark, we all know another performance like week 1 is not to be expected right? Well what is and will be expected moving forward? It'll take a couple of weeks to assess that. The one thing that you do know for sure is that andre johnson is the most productive reciever in the NFL, Foster or no Foster, he will get his. If you are worried about having 2 studs from the same offence in your starting lineup (Not sure why you would), then i say go ahead and counter this with an offer for Foster, this guy is unproven and could stumble down the stretch for any reason. If i were a bettin' man i'd gmble on the sure thing every time. Oh and Pierre Thomas isn't bad either.

SD did nothing to upgrade a very bad run blocking line, probably made it worse but not getting a deal done for McNeil - the dude ran for under 4 ypc and fumbled against the Chiefs.

I like AJ much more than Austin.

PT plays on an offenseive juggernaught - if he gets 20 touches a game (which he did Monday) IMO he is a lock for a top 10 RB season.

IMO you're upgrading at both positions.

Massaquai, is Cleveland's WR1 - and would be your WR2.

In terms of being worried about having 2 guys from the same team - I try and load up on guys from offensive powerhouses, I prefer it.

I'd pull the trigger on this immediately.

I agree with this. I have Johnson and Foster and love the combo. Foster may not have another game with 33 carries, but Houston won't have many games with only 17 pass attempts. Most games will be somewhere in the middle. It's a great situation to be in because you know Houston is going to get yards and score, and Foster/Johnson are the two most likely guys to do it. On weeks when they're playing a bad pass D/good running D, Foster might only get you 80 yards, but that will more likely be one of Johnson's 100+ yards/TD games. Whereas defenses "picking their poison" is bad for them, it's great for you because no matter which they pick, you get points from the other.

Even against good rush defenses, Foster clearly gets goal line carries and a mediocre yardage game for Foster can still turn into double-digit points. Any game where Johnson gets very low yardage, it's likely because Houston was successful with the run (and Foster got you points).
