Too Much Depth! Forte/Mathews/WR for Rice? WHIR!

Postby Valandir » Wed Sep 15, 2010 10:39 am

Hey all, so I'm in a 10 team auction league, people were overpaying for stud players early on in our auction, so I waited and picked for value, but now I have too much depth and too many players, so I want to try and upgrade for better players!

10 Team ESPN Standard Scoring

QB: Joe Flacco
RB: Ryan Mathews
RB: Rashard Mendenhall
RB/WR: Knowshon Moreno
WR: Brandon Marshall
WR: Greg Jennings
TE: Brent Celek
D/ST: Vikings D/ST
K: Ryan Longwell

Bench: Matt Forte, Chi RB
Bench: Ricky Williams, Mia RB
Bench: Brandon Jacobs, NYG RB
Bench: Jahvid Best, Det RB
Bench: Mike Wallace, Pit WR
Bench: Hines Ward, Pit WR
Bench: Jeremy Maclin, Phi WR

I feel like the best way to upgrade my team is to either trade Flacco + a RB1/2 for an elite QB, or package one of my RB1s with depth for a stud RB.

I like trying to move Forte as a sell high for an elite RB with a bad week like Ray Rice/Gore, so do you think Maclin/Forte/Mathews for Rice and Vick is fair? Would you take the deal? His team is Brady/Vick at QB, Rice/DeAngelo Williams/Harrison/Tomlinson at RB, Desean/Henderson/Mason/Collie at WR.

Any advice? WHIR, thanks in advance!

I think you are giving up way too much to get Rice. RB1 in Matthews (can argue high RB2) and Forte who can do RB2 and a WR for one guy is giving up too much. I can understand Forte/WR for Rice/lesser WR but even then, that's not gonna be enough for Rice owners. Sorry!

way way way too much you are giving up.

Stand pat and wait for someone to come to you - do a league email explaining your depth, but not disclose your need.

Forte and Mathews will be exceptionally nice this year. I think Flacco will be good also but yes and upgrade there is in your interest - they will not play the Jets D every week.

Vick ? Really ? Kolb is AR's guy, he's not going anywhere (At least for another week or 2)

Maybe Forte/Ward for Rice/Vick then? Or Forte/Ward for Foster and someone? I do think that looks a bit weak, but not sure what I'd do otherwise. I do think it's a good time to sell high on Forte after that game, what would the ceiling on a RB that someone would be willing to give up with depth for just him? I mean, I definitely agree that I'm giving up a lot for less, but unfortunately all the flex-level depth is doing nothing sitting on my bench.

Would doing the same deal for AP and a low level bench replacement still be giving up too much?

I guess the option of waiting for people to come to me is there, but I worry that there might not be any injuries to players significant enough for someone to warrant trading a major piece for bench depth/replacements. Grant was a big exception, but his owner has Schaub at QB, Stewart/Taylor at RB, and Boldin/Andre Johnson/Colston/Driver at WR. Not exactly anyone to trade for, except maybe Schaub, and I wouldn't give up that much for him.

You've got enough depth at RB to play matchups all year long. Add to that most of your competition must be lacking in RB2 department and I would stay with what you got and kick ass weekly or most weeks.

I actually took a look at this earlier, but didn't know how I felt about it. I'd say you stand down and let the season progress some. That's some serious depth you have and I like Forte a lot this year, Matthews played in the slop and should do better, and you shouldn't be looking to weaken your already shaky receiver corps. Thats the only spot I would look to upgrade on your squad.

Thanks for chiming in.
