Trade Proposed to Me: need your help!

Postby matt21484 » Thu Sep 16, 2010 8:22 am

So I'm new to Fantasy Football, this is the first league I've played in and first fantasy league in general so I'm a bit behind when it comes to individual players.

Here is the trade that was proposed to me:

I would receive:
Steven Jackson
Jeremy Maclin
Hines Ward

FOR:
Randy Moss
Brandon Jackson

What do you think? At first glance, I think it's pretty good, I doubt the Rams are going to be throwing as much as they did in their home opener and Randy Moss is going up against a tough defense this week. I don't really know much about Maclin or Ward.

Here is my Team:
Peyton Manning (QB)
Randy Moss (WR)
Marques Colston (WR)
LeSean McCoy (RB)
Thomas Jones (RB)
Greg Olsen (TE)
Brandon Jackson (Flex position RB/WR)
Robbie Gould (K)
Bears (DEF)

Bench:
Ricky Williams (RB)
Devery Henderson (WR)
Felix Jones (RB)
Mike Sims-Walker (WR)
Santonio Holmes (WR)
Tim Tebow(QB)

Welcome to the wonderful world of fantasy football. When considering a trade, the two most important things to think about are (1) the long term value to you of each player involved and (2) where your roster is strong and where it's weak. The current week's matchup is usually not a factor, since these are the guys that you'll be riding with for several weeks to come. It's almost impossible to answer a trade question without knowing what your roster is before the trade happens, because without it, no one can help you assess question 2. Edit your post or reply to it with your roster and how many you start at each position. That will let everyone give you the best help possible. Thanks and enjoy!

We need to see your team, but my first thought is pass on this. The thing to keep in mind is that you're trading future performances, not past performances. Guys like Moss will get their numbers-probably this week. Jackson is now a top 15 rb just by being the main guy in GBay. The guys he's offering are big names but on the downside of their career (SJax and Ward) and on bad offenses. SJax is a great player but wont score many TDs at all in that offense and with a rookie QB throwing it 50+ times a game, his numbers will only get worse. Maklin's stock is also dropping with Kolb out. Ward suffers from Roth being out, but Wallace will be the deep threat and Ward the possession WR.

Edit: i just saw you added your roster. i still think i'd pass on this because i dont see the jackson/jackson part being much of an upgrade for you. (im pretty pessimistic about SJax this year, some would disagree based on his talent. I think BJackson has more upside in that offense even though he's not the same talent), and nobody would agree to maklin/Ward for Moss.
Your team is pretty solid. Id try to upgrade on your RB2 from Thomas Jones. Maybe try to trade TJ+somebody else(sims-walker?) to somebody who needs 2 holes filled. This will work much better if you wait until after TJ has a good week ;-) Also, id drop Tebow and find a better QB2. chances are with peyton, you'll only need the backup for 1 week so look at the matchups for Peyton's bye week and grab somebody playing a weak pass defense. You can probably find guys like Orton, hasselback, garrard, Derrick Anderson, maybe even Matt Ryan on your free agent board. All would be an upgrade over Tebow if you lose Peyton. You can also drop/add defenses weekly to get good matchups instead of playing the Bears against good offenses. (sorry if you already know some of this, just trying to help)

I agree, this is not a good deal for you. You don't have enough depth at WR to lose Moss, and the players being offered to you are not as valuable as their names would imply. If it's me, I say thanks but no thanks. Good luck!

Wow thanks for all the quick replies, that helps a ton. It looks like the overwhleming conclusion is to tell him to kiss off, which is what I'll probably do.

Thanks for the QB recommendations as well, I knew I had a crappy QB2, but I have a bit of time to try and find someone.
My RB situation was pretty bad as well, but I recently picked up Jackson from Waivers so I think/hope that should help me out in the RB spot.

Like I said, this is my first year in any fantasy league so I'm learning as I go. Thanks for all the suggestions!
