Bench One: Hakeem Nicks or Malcolm Floyd?

Postby taw856 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 1:57 am

CBS has Floyd as a top WR option this week given the 12 targets last week and JAX at home instead of KC on the road in bad weather. Hakeem Nicks is battling an ankle injury and going up against an opponent (@IND) that gave up 200+ rushing yards last week, meaning the Giants will emphasize the run instead of looking to pass.

That said, these are rationalizations, right? I can't leave Nicks on the bench after he blew up and made me look foolish last week (viewtopic.php?f=19&t=471653), right?

good rationalizations....still a tough choice though and I think I would lean towards Hicks. Yes the Giants will run but Peyton will still score points so they wont be able to run all day.

Tough one, I think I'd probably roll with Floyd & here's why...

JAX secondary is terrible until proven otherwise (Orton just carved em up for almost 300 yards).

SD is playing at home & is a passing team (IDC they moved up to draft a RB).

Indy is pretty decent vs the pass.

NYG are on the road facing a Colts team that has to nearly be in "must win" mode - they cannot afford to fall to 0-2.

SD is at home and in the same situation as the Colts (although not as big of a deal is the craptastic AFC West)

NYG are going to do everything they can to keep Peyton & the Colts off the field - expect a huge dose of Bradshaw & Jacobs.

I'd start Nicks. After last week who knows what he is capable of? Game could easily turn into a shoot out in the 2nd half.

The person that is going to be a problem for us to stop is Antonio Gates. Derek Cox struggled last week so Naanee might have a few big plays if that continues. I think Mathis will do a good job against Floyd. And really Floyd hasn't established himself as Rivers' go to guy.

Interesting call. You could almost flip a coin, but I think Floyd should start. He got a dozen targets last week, and I don't think they're going to forget about him - stretching the field is important to what they want to do with Mathews and Gates. Giants should be running a ton against the Colts, as noted by others. Good luck!

Thanks for your help on my issue.

the key here is the extent of the ankle injury..... isn't it? Otherwise its a useless discussion and we would all be screaming at you for not playing Nicks. I could agree more that the Giants will be thrust into a must throw offense at some pint in the game (early 2nd half, I'd say).

Floyd will have a good game, no doubt but not as good a Nicks "IF" he's 100%. If he's not or you're not convinced.. then go with Floyd.

the only reason not to start Nicks IMHO would be because of injury. i think it would be wise to wait until closer to the game. agree that Gates and Naanee will benefit. also think Mathews will do well. Jax not a great run defense. Floyd did not produce until KC started double teaming Gates. he caught 3 of 12 targets? Floyd is not that tough. inconsistent and so far does not take advantage of his vertical game.

my worthless two cents. good luck!

Re: Bench One: Hakeem Nicks or Malcolm Floyd?

Postby Marino's Isotoners » Sun Sep 19, 2010 9:55 am

I have the same dilemma and I've got Nicks penciled into the lineup at this point. I'm considering grabbing Devery Henderson just in case (best WR still available that is playing Sun or Mon night).

In the back of my mind though, Floyd is an intriguing play. 7 of his 12 targets came in the 4th qtr and they are playing a weak pass defense. I might make the switch since my opponent is starting Rivers and if I can offset some of his pts, it might be worth it (though I would hate for Nicks to go off again).

Anyone have any updated opinions?
