K woes: drop Hartley?

Postby steelglam » Mon Sep 27, 2010 6:51 am

Apparently, New Orleans is going to bring John Carney in this week to see if he can still kick, in lieu of Hartley's woes. It's not guaranteed that the Saints will go with Carney over Hartley, but I'm wondering if I should drop Hartley anyways considering how poorly he's been playing and how the Saints seem to be considering replacing him.

If so, here is the best of what's on waivers, in order of fantasy points scored this season so far:

Nugent (CIN)
Reed (PIT)
Bryant (ATL)
Gano (WAS)
Folk (DAL)
Carpenter (MIA)
Vinatieri (IND)
Barth (TB)
Bironas (TEN)
Brown (STL)
Prater (DEN)

So, the questions are: 1.) Drop Hartley? 2.) If so, pick up who to replace him?

I'm dropping Hartley to pick up Bryant, if I can get Bryant. He's another dome kicker, which is always preferable.

Problems with Hartley...
1. He's going to get replaced.
2. I've seen almost all of Hartley's kicks this season, and he's been hooking them all, hooking some of them in, hooking some of them out. I haven't seen that nice vertical end-over-end (Like Bryant had, under pressure, long, to beat the Saints on the road, after being iced).
3. My biggest concern with Hartley... From what the announcers said during Sunday's game, his career long is only 46 yards! It was also obvious that the Saints weren't willing to give him a shot at anything longer than that. If I don't have a chance at any 50+ yarders (worth more fantasy points), I need a new kicker!

I'm also dropping Hartley this week - trying to decide between Rackers, Nugent and Bryant. I'm leaning towards Nugent just because he's shooting 100% this year on 8 tries, including 2 50+ yarders, one in wet conditions at Carolina yesterday... go with the hot hand right?

Drop Hartley for Bryant, he's 8 of 8 and on the best offense of that bunch. Oh, and Folk kicks for the Jets now, not Dallas. Good luck!
