ROTOWORLD:"Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Clinton Portis (wrist) will start Sunday's game at Philadelphia.
NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora continues to hear, however, that Portis is moving toward a role as a passing-down specialist with Ryan Torain getting "more and more" of the carries. Torain must be owned in all leagues while Portis can't be trusted as more than a flex play going forward. Keiland Williams isn't worth a roster spot with Portis assuming the third-down role. In a 10-team league would the better move be to pickup Portis off waivers with a 4/10 flyer or grab Torain off free agents? I start Greene, McCoy, Brown (flex) with hightower benched so Portis or Torain would be stashed...
Portis days are numbered im starting to think. I grabbed Torain just cause i thought it was better to have him who has a chance of doing something, than hanging on to MJD handcuff cause if MJD cant get it going then his back up sure is not going to do much...

Looking better for Torain. Keiland Williams just got let go. It's just Torain, Portis and Simpson.

According to the redskins website Portis new role is 3rd down back. Call me crazy but I am rolling the dice and starting Ryan "The Train" Torain in place of portis this week. I am keeping my fingers crossed, I hope its not another Shanny pregame shenanigans in preparation for Philly.

I dont think it is. I mean how can you start a guy thats going to the ground when he is about to get hit and then explaining it saying " I could have picked up 4 more yards...4 yards. I really dont think thats going to matter.."
Yeah not a good thing to say.

Ryan looked really good, and Portis will probably be sidelined for sometime, with the groin injury now...
Clinton Portis said he heard his left groin pop in the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Eagles.
Portis immediately went to the trainer's table, stretched himself out and then came back in for the first drive of the fourth quarter. Predictably, he aggravated the injury again and went to the locker room. Portis is set for additional tests on Monday and his availability for Week 5 is in serious doubt. Ryan Torain would be the feature back if Portis sits. Oct. 4 - 10:43 am et Source: Washington Post
Anyone know much about this kid, Torain? I think Shanny had him (Denver) as a rookie, and he got hurt, out for season, but don't know much more than that..what year was that? School? Draft? Anyone???
I have been following Ryan "The Train" Torain since his junior year of his college career (were he got his nickname). He was Dennis Erickson's first JUCO transfer to Arizona State after he took the team over from dirk cutter and was a HUGE contributor to ASU's 8-0 start that year. I believe that same year he had over 1200 yards rushing and a bunch of TD's. He runs like freight train between the tackles and once he gets in the open he has the jets to take it home. He was out for some time a with a foot injury/surgery his senior year (that cost him spots in the draft) but still managed to get drafted by the Broncos later in the draft, 5th or 6th pick I think. Unfortunately he had another foot injury early in the season last year while playing for Denver (not sure if it was the same foot/injury). Denver released him and Shanny scooped him right up again
I did draft him last year and I also dropped Portis last week and picked up Torain after I found out Portis was a 3rd down back (even started him this week against philly). Like any running back he is prone to injury but his running style does make him a little more vulnerable.
I believe in this kid and Sun Devil Nation is proud he represents!
Ya I watched this kid run yesterday and he had some nice flashes, did a sweet side step on Asante Samuel (I know he's not known for tackling but if you saw it, it was hilarious) in the backfield and picked up some yards. He also put his shoulder down and ran some people over during the course of the game. Overall I liked what I saw and I'm thinking about picking him up for depth in my 10 team league, with J. Harrison taking a back seat to the Peyton Hillis bus.
