In my 10 team H2H non-keeper league, we start 2 QBs every week and I had some bad luck on Sunday, as Jay Cutler and Michael Vick are my 2 current starting QBs. I feel that I have a pretty good team but I'm worried that the injuries (particularly Vick's) could derail my season, as my 3rd QB is Vince Young, who is clearly a big dropoff from Vick. The Matt Schaub owner in my league is wanting to do a deal with me and he wants Antonio Gates from me. I am hesitant, as Gates is pretty clearly the top TE and looks headed for a career year (1,100 yards and 11 or so touchdowns seems reasonable), so I'm not going to part with him easily. However, I am tempted to do it, since Schaub is a very good QB in a great offense and would certainly help me sleep easier at night. Would you do a 1-for-1 that would have me giving up Gates and receiving Schaub?
If I did it, I would probably cut Marion Barber and pickup Brent Celek. I like Celek, as I had him last year and he was a tremendous sleeper, though he is off to a slow start. I would think 800 yards and 5-6 touchdowns would seem to be reasonable from Celek, which would seem to make him an average-to-slightly below average starting TE in a 10-teamer. As I'm typing this, the other owner made an initial offer: he gives Schaub and Donald Driver and I give Gates and Peyton Hillis. Obviously, I'm not really willing to do that, as Driver's stats are inflated and I don't want to give up Hillis just yet, as he seems to have feature back status locked down (for now, at least) and that isn't the type of runner I want to just add as a throw-in.
Anyway, what do you guys think overall? I'm worried that Vick's injury could cause him to miss significant time or linger and limit his effectiveness for a good bit of the season.
Here is how my team currently looks:
QB: J. Cutler QB: M. Vick RB: M. Turner RB: R. Mendenhall WR: G. Jennings WR: C. Ochocinco TE: A. Gates WR/RB: J. Charles WR/RB/TE: P. Hillis K: R. Gould DEF: Dallas
BN: V. Young (QB) Bn: M. Barber (RB) Bn: R. Torian (RB) Bn: J. Knox (WR) Bn: M. Wallace (WR) Bn: D. Bryant (WR)
What's your record? If it's OK, I would roll the dice, put Young in, and see how long Vick is out. Let's say it's 2 weeks. I think you could live with Young at QB for 2 weeks if it means keeping Gates. Young is capable of putting up OK numbers. I wouldn't panic just yet.
12 Team League. We start 2 QBs and get .5 PPR, otherwise standard scoring QBs: Stafford, Fitzpatrick, Collins RBs: Charles, Mendenhall, Best, Starks, Carter, Karim WRs: D. Jackson, Marshall, S. Smith, Green, TE: Hernandez, Cook
Okay, I declined the deal but he has countered and sweetened the deal a little. His newest offer would have him giving up Schaub, Donald Driver and Knowshon Moreno for my Gates and Peyton Hillis. My plan is to decline the trade, as I don't think Driver is a true upgrade from my #3 or #4 receivers (Johnny Knox and Mike Wallace) and I don't think Moreno is any better than Peyton Hillis (he actually might be a downgrade, as Moreno just isn't a very explosive runner).
However, I am thinking about declining it and then making my own offer. I am thinking of offering him my Antonion Gates and Chad Ochocino for his Schaub and Miles Austin. That way, he still gets the centerpiece he's really been after (Gates) while I get my QB insurance (Schaub) without touching my running back depth (Hillis not in this deal) and actually upgrading at receiver (Austin > Ochocinco). I actually think that would be a worthwhile deal for me. I would lose Gates but get a big boost in depth at QB and WR and I would pick up Celek and plug him in at TE every week (my thinking is that he should be about a league-average TE this year). What would you guys think of my counter offer?
