His team: Peyton Manning McCoy(quest), Felix Jones, Benjarvus G-Ellis, M.Tolbert, Brandon Jackson Calvin Johnson, Garcon, Hester, Breaston, Jacoby Jones, Mason VERNON DAVIS, GREG OLSEN Akers SD D/ST, PHI D/ST (3-1, 6th in points, and in MY division and 0-1 against me)
I want to remain undefeated as long as possible and lock up a playoff spot, so I simply cannot wait on Texans' TE O.Daniels to get back to his old reliable, productive self, though Lions' TE B.Pettigrew has been a wonderful waiver-wire pick-up & surprise so far; but Scheffler is the veteran in Detroit imo, so there are no guarantees those numbers will continue on a consistent basis for Pettigrew. NOW...
Two weeks ago, after beating him, he suggested TE G.Olsen to me for my WR3 Eddie Royal, to which I took pause bc Austin's bye week was coming up in wk#4 (glad I waited). Then it dawned on me just how PASS-HAPPY DEN QB Kyle Orton and the Broncos have been esp. after last sunday, and that Royal is again on pace for a 90+ catch season and perhaps 1000yds+ --- he's a FINE WR3 considering my league's scoring parameters. This offer is still on the table as far as I know... but I digress...
But then today I became more and more convinced that this sunday is a MUST-WIN for the 49ers over a Vickless Philly team that my Redskins just conquered. Since I can only start 2RBs per week (no flex), and I have M.Bush who will FINALLY get his chance to shine with McFadden finally sidelined, with T.Jones and JStew getting platooned so far in my line-up each wk based on match-ups, I feel that I have the depth @ RB to move one of those 3 RB2s (TJones, MBush, or JStew) for a PREMIER TE in Vernon Davis, who may end up being an inexpensive "keeper" due to his average start w/ his scant 1TD to this point, and I am expecting VD's biggest game to date vs PHI... SO... bearing all this in mind, my ultimate question is:
TRADE #1 --- Royal for Olsen? or TRADE #2 --- either TJones, MBush, or JStew for Vernon Davis? Remember, I start AP every wk now since his bye has come and gone, and Randy is now in town to limit 7-8 man fronts (yay!)
Which trade would help me more (I am 4-0 and leading in my division remember) ? Remember also that w/o Cutler starting for CHI, there's just no guarantee that Olsen will continue to lead Bears receivers in targets since giving up TEN SACKS to my NYG D, he may be asked to block more going forward; plus Royal appears to have earned Orton's trust as the main slot WR a la Welker/SSmith (NYG). Finally, I have coveted VD since before last yr's BREAKOUT season, and think his numbers will ADVANCE back closer to those great stats going forward, starting this sunday vs PHI...
Thanks for your time both reading and digesting all of this text, but I know I can count on some of the Cafe's veteran posters for advice in this instance... TIA!
I know gang, my query appears a bit daunting, lots of text, but your response needn't be as wordy or as well-reasoned, just gimme some input, or even just your "gut" feeling on these two options, after all they are both merely 1:1 offers...
Thanks for the response in kind Vincent... And for the record, trade option #1, my E.Royal for his G.Olsen, is DEFINITELY off the table now. I told him that Chicago's O-line is so bad that I'm not sure back-up veteran signal-caller Todd Collins will even have enough time to hit Olsen as an "escape-valve" at this point, I'm looking for Olsen to be called upon by Martz to block more (shocker, right?) as the Bears attempt to get back to their roots, the RUN game w/ M.Forte and Chester T. as a change of pace receiver outta the backfield, especially on 3rd down, further limiting Olsen's chances for targets/receptions; and who the hell knows just how often da' Bearss will even REACH the red-zone @ Carolina, whose secondary leads the NFL in INTs thru 4 weeks and plays even better at home. To wit, Royal is on pace for 100 rec, ~1200yds, and 8TDs in the pass-happiest offense in the NFL thru four games, and though Orton is currently sprerading the ball around a la Drew Brees, he is consistently looking Royal's way to the tune of an average of 8 targets per contest; he's been far more valuable than greg Olsen to date and should remain so into the foreseeable future...
I am yet to receive a "yes" or a "no" with regard to the 2nd trade prospect consisting of HIS CHOICE OF: either JStew, TJones, or MBush from my stable of RBs for his under-achieving borderline elite TE talent, Vernon Davis, who I believe the Niners will need to adopt a MUCH BIGGER role in their offense going forward, esp. in this week's "do-or-die" game sunday night at home vs a bruised, beat-up Eagles team who must travel across the country to play a nationally televised tilt vs a team who simply needs the win MORE... if my buddy comes up with a choice or a counter-offer I will update this thread...
I dont like the Olsen trade considering you have to start 3 WR, and I don't think Olsen is a huge upgrade over Pettigrew regardless of what Olsen has done target-wise.
I'd go after Davis. I think they'll continue to attempt to open up the offense. I'd rank your RBs in this order, and trade from the bottom first: TJones, Bush, JStew.
thx hskepwr, I have my RBs ranked exactly the same way, and should M.Bush "explode" in his first start in such a way vs San Diego that Coach Cable becomes convinced that a 50-50 split (or better!) is warranted btw Bush and McFadden (when he's back in the lineup) then I might re-rank Bush ATOP the list frankly... I'm definitely considering starting him this sunday since he should see 20+ touches as OAK's passing game under Gradkowski is yet to really take off...
