Trades and injury? Standard procedure

Postby britdevine » Mon Oct 18, 2010 9:34 pm

So I made a trade for Malcom Floyd on saturday morning, but commish didnt approve it in time for sunday's game.

Now floyd got injured during sundays game and the trade will go through tonight. No players I traded were injured and are fine.

Do I have a legit beef that the trade should not go through anymore? What is the normal handling for this.

I believe it'd be fine to cancel the trade. If he was hurt upfront would you take him? Now that the information is out, how do you feel about the trade? I think it's acceptable, since the knowledge is new.

Help?

I actually don't think it's fair for this trade to be cancelled. The trade was accepted on Saturday morning before the game. Consequently, it was made when Floyd was still healthy as was bargained for. Floyd only got injured after the trade offer was made and accepted. It shouldn't matter that Floyd later got hurt.

Now, if you made a trade offer for Floyd and the other manager rushed to accept it only after Floyd got hurt, then it should be reversed since your offer wasn't for a hurt Floyd. In this situation, it's basically a race between you and the other manager to see who could cancel or accept the trade offer for Floyd. It's not a thought out bargained-for exchange as all valid trades should be.

But whatever your league decides, it should be a rule that's applied consistently and evenly throughout the season.
