Gates a tough decision

Postby P1Army » Fri Oct 22, 2010 5:37 pm

Last week my team got nailed by injuries. I play in a league where no TE is required but one can be played as a WR3. I lost D-Jax, Gates and Floyd last week so needless to say I lost and I'm sitting at 3-3 for the season. I was able to claim Avant and Big Mike Williams off the wire. So all week I was planning on starting D. Driver, J. Avant and Big Mike, but the San Diego Union tribune is giving every indication that Antonio Gates will play through his toe injury this Sunday but he will be a game time decision. If gates plays do you start him over driver or williams? I will have to keep Avant in my lineup because he plays the early game.

Touch choice. If I were you i'd sit Avant. Phili has a tough matchup against the Titans and I don't see Phili really getting a passing game going. I think both Driver and Williams have bigger games than Avant. I don't think you need to worry about Gates and waiting to here the news about him, he will play (at least from what I've heard). At this point, the Chargers can't afford to sit and let Gates heal, there is a big difference between the Chargers going 2-5 and 3-4. If he has a chance to play, he will.

Mike Williams should have a big game against a bad Arizona defense, and now with Deion Branch gone, he is Hasselbacks #1 target. Driver should have a typical Donald Driver game. 50-75 yards and the possibility of a TD. Go with Williams and Driver. If you really want to play Avant because he plays the early game, then go with Avant and Williams.

Had the same problem with Gates and DJax. The obvious call is if they say Gates is starting then you have to start him over Avant. Kolb is sketchy and it took several games before he got the timing down with both Maclin and Jackson, and I would expect the same thing with Avant. And let's not forget that Avant is no Jackson.
