Can I do this trade? Moral Dilemma. WHIR!

Postby phorts » Thu Oct 28, 2010 7:14 pm

League setup and Current team are in Sig. I'm the commish.

Buddy of mine, who is not too fantasy saavy, dropped Witten last week instead of Watson (Hasty and costly decision). Having the #1 Waiver, i decided to burn it on Witten (instead of Britt) since my TE situation has been hurting (Carlson, Daniels, etc). I didnt feel too bad about it, until today.

He offers me Ryan Torain for Witten:

He has Torain, Gore, McFadden and R Brown. I've been trying to get Torain off him for a couple weeks now. He currently has an offer of Britt (taken with the #2 Waiver this week) from an owner with serious quality WR Depth and a heavy need for RB, they definitely matchup well. He says in his note that he'd rather give Torain to me since i've been after him for weeks, but all he is asking for is a TE back, the SAME one he dropped a few days ago.

First of all, Can i do it...morally? As the commish? He possibly has a better offer on the table in Britt (especially since he has Reggie Wayne and his next best WR is Roy Williams..yuck). I think i know what you all will say to this. But i fear the lashback in the league for this....but i digress.

More importantly perhaps, is does this deal make sense for me? I have Foster, Rice, Mathews and Fjax, not to mention Hart who could start this week. I would still need to grab a TE before Sunday (Pettigrew is on WW but i'm starting Stafford and Megatron this week..is that smart?).

The value is certainly there, as Torain has been solid, but Witten's value is going up i beleive and Pettigrew is a question mark with the QB Change....

I think i'd be looking to do this deal and then make a trade for a WR Upgrade and then pickup Pettigrew, assuming he lasts that long.

Would you do this deal? Thanks for your input and WHIR as always!

Something to consider, Portis might jump back into the starting role when he gets healthy. I know it doesnt make sense but there is a good chance it will happen.

As far as morals go, cant people veto it if they dont agree? Im pretty much against vetos unless the trade is completely 1 sided. If the offer is there and you feel comfortable with torain in the long haul i say go for it.

Once you get Torain maybe you can trade one of your lesser backs or WR for a TE like a Daniels or something.

Tough situation.

Over my years playing, I've seen a couple guys drop the wrong player and they instantly put a post on the message board and the commish puts the guy back on his team. I never had a problem with that.

But if the other team just stayed silent after the drop... well... what can you do??

I probably would just hang on to Witten... I like him as Kitna's safety dump off guy.

I'm the commish and dont veto trades unless A. there is collusion, B. a team is obviously dumping, or C. if the trade is so wildly lopsided that either A or B must be true..lol

Also, this guy dropped Witten and then didnt say anything for a couple days after. He even backed it up saying he meant to do it when i ridiculed him immediately afterwards.

I've had three things happen this year where guys did something by accident (dropped the wrong guy, inadvertanly accepted a trade, etc) and i've reversed it. If you call me, or post on the boards that you didnt mean to do something...well obviously i'll reverse it. But days later? Sorry.

I think i'm gunna do it... i'm fine morally and have beat away the restless natives before..... they're just jealous.

Aye aye aye!

Dude, it's fantasy. You didn't take his first born. You need Witten in a bad way (though his value sinks without romo)...but Torrain is crap. If he knows how to offer trades he knows how to pick up and drop players.

Keep witten cause he makes your team better.
