MMoore done....Drop Steve Smith (CAR)??? Stop the Bleeding?

Postby dunbar2007 » Mon Nov 08, 2010 2:07 pm

I've suffered through Steve Smith all year, drafted him with the 32nd pick with all the time off the clock as I huffed and hawed over whether I should draft him or Arian Foster (yep, that hurts)

With Moore done is it finally time to drop Steve Smith? His playoff schedule and week 12/13 as well are awesome, but I don't see how Jimmy Clausen can be expected to get him the ball....EVER. Tony Pike maybe?

QB: Vick, Orton, Freeman (start 2)
RB: CJ24, SJax, JCharles, BWells, MBush, MTolbert (start 3)
WR: SMoss, SSmith (CAR), JKnox, PGarcon(start 2-3)
TE: AGates, ZMiller (start 1-2)

Davone Bess, James Jones, Jabar Gaffney are the best left on waivers...

Dez Bryant owner has crap RB's so I'm thinking of offering BWells and SSmith for him (two underachievers for unknown)

Thoughts? .5 PPR and standard

Well don't drop him, he's still your 2nd best WR (and THAT hurts). There is a cance that he's an accetable play later if he developes some chemistry with whomever takes over at QB. If you must drop smeone and pick up a bettr WR then drop one of the other 2 guys.
This aint a NYC auto garage, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

12 team redraft: Rivers (Q1), CJ (R1), McFadden (R2), B Wells (R3), Caddy (R4), Forsett (R5), AJ (W1), Fitz (W2), Royal (W3), Sims-Walker (W4), V Jax (W5), V Davis (T1), Kaeding (K1), Jets (D1)

I won't just drop him for the heck of it...I figured pickup Jabar Gaffney as a reliable 10 pts a game player instead of the steve smith 1.9 pts... or offer him in a trade for Dez Bryant type WR?

Any advice would be appreciated. I have nearly the same problem with Smith. He has been inconsistent all season & not doing crap since week 2. I'm stuck on whether or not to keep him & I need a roster spot this week for a replacement kicker (Janikowski on a bye). Looking at the positives & negatives, it's not an easy decision. Try to break it down like this dunbar2007 & go from there.

Positives:
---This is Steve Smith we're talking about.....enough said. ;)
---He is going to get targets & opportunities, especially with the run game struggling, & the fact that they will most likely be passing alot trying to play catch-up late in games.
---He has some favorable match-ups coming late in the season around playoff time (@Cle
@Sea, Atl, Ari).

Negatives:
---His play has declined this year, & between the drops & fumbles.....he is quickly losing trust.
---QB carousel (Clausen isn't the answer)
---The next 2 weeks he faces TB & Baltimore defense. Is he really worth sitting the bench taking up a spot for this long?

==========================
What should I do? Personally I'm leaning more toward dropping him. This week I need a kicker & don't really have anyone I want to drop. But the thought of dropping Smith for a bye week kicker seems insane.

Here is my roster (PPR) - 1QB / 3WR / 2RB / 1TE / 1K / 1DEF:

QB: Philip Rivers(BYE) / Brett Favre
WR: DeSean Jackson/Jeremy Maclin/Mike Sims-Walker/Steve Smith
RB: Arian Foster/Michael Turner/Reggie Bush
TE: Jason Witten/Chris Cooley/Jacob Tamme
K: Sebastian Janikowski(BYE)
DEF: Tennessee/New Orleans(BYE)

It does seem insane doesn't it, but I agree...I don't want Janikowski and keep Smith either!!!!!

I posted my roster minus kickers...and I have Janikowski and while I NEVER carry two kickers, Janikowski has been a few pt advantage every week considering how often Oaklands offense gets going and stalls...and Janikowski boots it through. I had Rackers off waivers the year he went nuts and it was the only other time I didn't drop a kicker during his bye.

I really think I'm going to try and swing a Wednesday night/Thursday deal but if push comes to shove, I'm dropping Smith. Someone who is deep at WR might take a shot on him if you offer them a position they are weak at as the 2nd player I figure?

Definitely interested in having a conversation about this. I am worried Smith might recover with that easy 12/13 and playoff schedule if Tony Pike and him develop a rapport. If I knew it was Clausen I'd drop him with 100 percent confidence.

looking at your roster again, is there anyone who is just horrendous at WR3 (worse than you with Smith :-) ) and might take Sims-Walker and Smith for a WR that is better than either even by a little? Or maybe just consistent because I'm thinking you'd like to have some more consistency and not be worried your WR3 will score 2 pts.

I'd pick up James Jones over Gaffney. Gaffney's OK but you never know who's going to be the hero in that Denver receiving corps every week. Dez Bryant trade would be worth a shot. Beanie Wells is a huge disappointment and you won't need him with CJ24, SJax, and Jamal Charles.

Yeah, I'm going to take a stab at it...can't believe I wasted a pick on him and another on Steve Smith!
