With the trade deadline looming this Thursday I feel like I need to make one final move to secure myself a long run in the playoffs. Here's my roster:
12 Team League (QB/2 RB/FLEX/2 WR/TE/K/D) Standard ESPN H2H Scoring, 3 Keepers QB: Matt Ryan, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Shaun Hill RB: Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson, Peyton Hillis, Michael Bush, Keiland Williams WR: Reggie Wayne, Brandon Lloyd, Percy Harvin, James Jones TE: Antonio Gates, Randy McMichael K: Sebastian Janikowski DEF: Jets
I feel like my only real weak spot right now is at QB but I'm also a little concerned that Wayne has been flat lately. I was thinking of offering Antonio Gates, Reggie Wayne, Percy Harvin, and Matt Ryan for Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, and Todd Heap. Do you think this is a good trade for me and more importantly will the other guy go for it? Leave a link if you'd like some help.
With any trade involving that many parts you can both win or lose big with one unexpected injury, etc. -- but I do think I like this deal for you with one caveat: I'd try to get a second WR thrown in so you're not losing depth by dealing both Wayne and Harvin for just one WR.
The key point in why I still like the deal though, is that Antonio Gates has been battling injury in recent weeks. The downgrade from Gates to heap is the most significant loss to your roster in this trade, but it might be diminished by whatever loss of production the toe injury costs Gates in the upcoming weeks. And if that's the case, the significant upgrade from Ryan to Manning will more than make up for having to start Heap. Calvin Johnson for Reggie Wayne is pretty much a wash. Johnson might be a little better right now, though I think Wayne has been underrated because of lack of TDs in recent weeks despite significant yardage that hints the TDs will come. And losing Harvin hurts your depth more than your starting lineup such that overall I'd say you win the deal.
I trade: Matt Ryan, Antonio Gates, Percy Harvin, Reggie Wayne, and Michael Bush
I get: Peyton Manning, Todd Heap, Nate Washington, Megatron
Bush will never crack my lineup and I still have Williams in case one of my starters goes down. Wayne and Ryan both had nice days today but I think Manning and Megatron should be better the rest of the way.
Yeah I think that worked out well for you. Is your deadline passed? IF not, I have some ideas on some depth you could move. I'm assuming your team is pretty much only looking at playoff matchups now...
Trade deadline is thursday. I'm still working on him but he doesn't like the Wayne for Megatron aspect of it. I'd welcome any help though.
EDIT: He countered with:
I send: Matty Ice, Gates, SJax
I get: Peyton, Megatron, Heap
Most significant drop off is obviously at TE but I feel like upgrade at QB about evens it out and SJax to Megatron is about a wash(and I may even upgrade a little there). What do you think?
Hold the phone on this one. I'm not so sure you want to be doing this. I'll try to break it down for you as best I can. First of all, I'm not so sure why you think you're weak at QB. Matt Ryan is a pretty good fantasy QB and has been real consistent. But I do understand your reasoning for wanting to upgrade. There is nothing wrong with upgrading from good (ryan) to great (peyton).
I just think you lose a lot of points from your lineup (assuming a healthy gates from here on out): Difference between Ryan to Manning: + 6-8 points Difference from Gates to Heap: - 8-10 points Difference from SJax to Megatron - not a big difference, but I think Johnson has a lot more inconsistent games than SJax.
I honestly like your team more before the trade. I just think you really downgrade your TE position. With mediocre TE's like Heap, he is likely going to get 30-50 yards, and then maybe a TD? The only TE's you can count on for TD's in fantasy are Gates, Vernon Davis and Tamme. If you look at the stats, Heap snags a TD once every 3 or 4 games. So you are pretty much hurting your lineup by using Heap. Trust me, I had Finley which was nice because he was consistent at about 10-12 fantasy points a week, and after I lost him to injury I shuffled between Heath Miller, Todd Heap and Andrew Quarless and there were a couple games where I lost by a few points because my TE position got me 3 or 4 points. I also strongly prefer RB's over WR's at the flex position. I'd take SJax over Megatron any day, especially with Stafford being out. I honestly think that defenses are really going to take Calvin Johnson out of the game since they really have no other weapons. Jahvid Best is hurting really bad, and no one is scared of the Lions running attack. I just don't see Johnson having a huge finish.
But it's up to you. It's definitely not that bad of a deal for you. If you really want an elite QB, and feel that Gates will not be healthy again, take it.
I don't like his counter, what is his roster? It may be easier to help out with his roster posted, but no way I'm trading Gates, Ryan and Wayne for Manning, Calvin and Heap. I personally think that your roster is fine with what you have and that you don't really need to make any big moves.
I think my decision is really going to hinge on how Gates does tonight. I think right now it's looking as though he isn't going to play tonight. Torn plantar facia isn't something you can come back from quickly and this isn't the only foot injury he's dealing with. If he's not going to be the same Gates the rest of the season, Manning is going to help me out a lot more than Matty Ice is. What should I offer for just Manning so I don't have to give up SJax?
I make this deal. Peyton and Megatron make this deal. You still have 2 quality starters at RB, and there is no clear timetable on how long Gates it going to be ailing. He torn a tendon in his foot and putting any weight on it causes extreme pain. There should be plenty of viable TE's on waiver to get you by. Not to mention if Gates is out for an extended amount of time you still have McMichael who looked great 2 weeks ago.
QB: Ben Roethlisburger WR: Calvin Johnson WR: Dez Bryant WR: Jeremy Maclin, Robert Meachem RB: Darren McFadden, Michael Bush RB: Michael Turner, Daniel Thomas, Ryan Torain TE: Jimmy Graham
