Sidney Rice or Nate Burleson? Quick WHIR!

Postby AsianChexMix » Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:57 am

I just noticed Rice is on the FA market but I just picked up Nate Burleson. Who would you rather have? Maybe drop Nate Washington? I am thinking of picking up Rice but wanted to double check. 1 PPR league.

My WRs:
Austin
AJ
Jennings
Nate Washington
Nate Burleson

I like Sidney. All upside, Favre LOVES him, I think the 40+ yards from last week is just the start. With Harvin garnering so much attention rice should be open, especially if defenses aren't sure if he is 100% yet and don't double him all day. Plus, now that Favre is happy to have gotten Childress fired, he will want to go out on a more positive note. Brady spreads the ball around too well, and with your other WR's Rice is a better WR2-3.

Krkamma hit that right on the head. Perfect answer.

Sidney is a stud, regardless. With the week he had last week(sure it wasn't great, but he just got back) it means that he is definitely going to get the ball thrown to him, and he is going to catch it. I stashed Rice for quite some time waiting for his return. He is definitely a steal if you can get him now.

Time for the contrarian viewpoint. Minnesota is shaken with a new "interim head coach" and Favre is not playing like he has. :-t Burleson has not lived up to expectations in the past, but here are his upsides:

1. He is playing opposite Megatron, affording him more man on man (#2) coverage and opens things up for him. Case in point, he has seen 35 targets over the past four games.

2. When Burleson enjoyed his best season in Minnesota (1,006 yards and nine TDs in 2004), Scott Linehan was the offensive coordinator. Linehan played a big role in recruiting Burleson to Detroit as a free agent last year and that the guy calling the plays thinks Burleson is a valuable.

I'd stay with Burleson!

I think it's safe to say Burleson's production has reached it's ceiling but Rice's ceiling is way higher...it's just whether it'll get there. I think I can afford to gamble on it with having AJ, Jennings, Austin as we only can start 3 WRs tops anyway. Is this an accurate assessment?

Rice, no question. He's going to be the number one now that he's back, especially with Harvin's injury issues.
