we have a 12 team keeper league. We have 2 playoffs. Top 6 teams play for the money...bottom 6 teams play for top draft spots next year.

for non keeper you could do two playoffs...and throw small money at it (1/2 the league entry fee to the winner)

Good system as long as the two worse teams are the ones with the first round byes in the consolation playoffs. Otherwise, the system is unfair to the crappy teams since they will end up losing in the first round and get the 6th pick instead of the 1st. If your league site doesn't allow you to seed the 6 worse teams manually, the only option is to make the consolation playoffs only valid for the first pick, and use the reg season standings to rank the 2nd thru 6th picks. That way, when the worse team loses their first round game they will still get the 2nd pick in the draft... probably behind one of the two teams(7th and 8th best teams in the league) who got first round byes and only had to win two games instead of 3.

Otherwise, if I owned the worse team in a dynasty league and lost the first pick in a consolation playoff system which favored the best teams instead of the worst, I'd be quitting that league and leaving the league with trying to find an owner for the worst team that doesn't even get a top 5 draftpick.

Hope that makes sense?

If I'm eliminated, I will wait until after the weekly waiver period ends to add players, so that the teams still in it can get who they want first.

But then I'm the guy who doesn't mind using his kicker spot to hold a player during the week while I see what shakes out.....so I guess somewhat contradictory approaches.

In week 14, if you are not in the playoffs, you are not playing. It's as simple as that, so there are no WW adds for teams that are not in the playoffs.

Our league awards a $25 high score award during the regular season - so, if it is Week 11 and my team is 2-8, I'm still playing the waiver wire like I should in order to keep trying to get that high score prize. It also makes sure that I don't pack it in and tank on a team that is trying to make the playoffs (i.e. we should still play the spoiler).

Great comment. ;-D

While I agree with you, there are consolation brackets that occur, so teams might want to still pick up players for that.
I would just wait until after the waiver period so the real playoff teams can get their fill first.

Well, in our league, there are no consolation brackets. We don't fight to see who is the 5th loser. ;-)

But, if there are consolation brackets in your leagues, the settings should be such that WW or FA pickups are not permitted - at all - by teams not vying for 1st place - even if there are other prizes for winning the consolation brackets (small cash prize or draft picks for next year).

It's not fair to those teams in the "real" playoffs if you scoop up a player that they could use, no matter if it is after the official WW period ends or not. If you grab Jason Avant this week after WW ends, and Jeremy Maclin and DeSean Jackson get hurt in practice on Thursday, then you've got a player they can use. And to be honest - your season doesn't matter anymore. That may not be the best example, but I think you get where I'm going.

(you're = any team who is not in the playoffs. Not Jack Black himself) ;-)

Not sure if I'm reading this the way it's intended. Are you saying that if a team didnt make the playoffs they should back off, or are you saying that if a team isn't it in the playoffs, the assumption is that they haven't been trying?
