Comm's Waiver Wire Defense formula, Week 14

Postby comm1680 » Wed Dec 08, 2010 11:27 am

I'm back for the playoffs. I haven't been able to run this formula all season for a multitude of reasons. I apologize for leaving everyone high and dry. But it's great to see biju has taken a stab at a formula as well. That's awesome!

For those who are new to the forum, the formula takes the yards, points, sacks, turnovers (int+fum recovered) per game for each defense and offense. Then, matches them up with some weighting to get those final rankings. Higher scores mean a more positive matchup for that defense. It does not take bye weeks, homefield advantage, or personnel changes into account.

Code: Select all
Team            Opponent        Score
New York Giants Minnesota       2314
Atlanta         Carolina        2225
Pittsburgh      Cincinatti      2225
New England     Chicago         1869
Oakland         Jacksonville    1757
Green Bay       Detroit         1588
Tampa Bay       Washington      1531
Cleveland       Buffalo         1436
Philadelphia    Dallas          1410
Denver          Arizona         1410
Seattle         San Fran        1361
New York Jets   Miami           1279
San Fran        Seattle         1201
St. Louis       New Orleans      997
Kansas City     San Diego        953
New Orleans     St. Louis        787
Detroit         Green Bay        785
Arizona         Denver           753
Jacksonville    Oakland          744
Indianapolis    Tennessee        710
Tennessee       Indianapolis     701
Miami           New York Jets    633
Buffalo         Cleveland        544
Baltimore       Houston          504
Minnesota       New York Giants  499
Cincinatti      Pittsburgh       486
San Diego       Kansas City      431
Washington      Tampa Bay        427
Chicago         New England      371
Dallas          Philadelphia     312
Houston         Baltimore        147
Carolina        Atlanta          -33

This confirms Atlanta as THE defense to get this week. They have been hyped a lot though, so don't be afraid to grab New England or Oakland. I'd stay away from Tampa considering their recent injuries. If your are desperate, Denver looks like a boom/bust pick going against a rookie in Arizona.

This is a fantastic tool and watch it often but havent' really tracked. How accurate has it been and right now with Bowe and the Chris Johnson situation i need big points from my D/ST. Right now i have the G-Men and Ravens, also eye-balling the Browns on the wire. My hunch says Ravens on MNF, not really losing points for giving up points in my league but more focused on sacks, turnovers and special teams. This tool clearly states the Giants. Any thoughts? thanks

I really think the Giants are your best play. They create more turnovers than the Ravens. Baltimore at Houston on Monday Night could turn into a shootout.
