Rex Ryan Buries Game Ball

Postby Flyn high again » Wed Dec 08, 2010 6:00 pm

From The Red Zone:
Kevin Kernan of the New York Post reports Jets coach buried a game ball from Monday night's 45-3 loss by the Jets' practice field as the team watched.

“This morning (Ryan) made us get out of a team meeting and he buried a football in the ground along the sideline on the field and said, ‘Just forget about it, forget about this game.’ It was actually a game ball from Monday night,’’ Darrelle Revis said. “Rex said, ‘We’re burying this game and what happened Monday night, and let’s move forward.’"

Revis said Ryan took the team by surprise.

“He told us to go outside and we were all saying, ‘What are we doing? Going on a field trip or something?'" Revis said. "The hole was right there, already dug, there with the dirt on the side and he threw the ball in the hole. It was a funeral for a game ball.

"That might be the best I ever saw, I never seen a coach do that. You usually hear a coach say, 'Let’s bury this game.' Rex actually buried it. Everybody was in shock, nobody said anything.’’

This guy can coach. The "Field Trip" and burial should stick in his guys' minds and help them get past the terrible defeat.

I'm going to laugh if after a horrible week 14 loss by the Jets the players are all saying "Normally we would have just moved on from that awful week 13 game but Rex did something so different that we just couldn't get it out of our minds..."

I love this guy! Also read somewhere that Rex said if they win the coin toss this Sunday against Miami, they are going to take the ball and try and get the offense rolling instead of all these slow starts.
A win next week and all is forgotten.

I heard he is going to bury the coin if they lose the flip. Could be a really bumpy practice field in due course.

They couldn't play well Monday cause they were too exhausted from doing all those push-ups all week long.

Very punny. :-)

You can be the best strategy guy on the planet and lose with an unmotivated team. Bury a freaking football, however, and your team will follow you to the promised land. At the very least, the idea of forgetting the last game has been hammered (shoveled?) home.
