Bench a defense or not with a slim lead?

Postby tophermike » Mon Dec 13, 2010 6:09 pm

I am in a yahoo league and currently have a 121.04 to 120.64 lead going into tonight (thank you D-Jax). Very very close. I have minnesota defense and my opponent is done for the week. Common logic would say to bench the D and celebrate so i dont risk negative points and a loss. However, with only .4 point lead, any stat correction (that can come as late as Thursday) could bump me out and I could have left good insurance points on the bench. yahoo has routine stat corrections (usually just a reception here or there with a handful of yards, but i lose 5 yards, and i lose the match)

What would you do? Our league scores -1 for 28-34 points allwed and -4 for 35+ allowed. those are the only ways to lose points and the only way to gain is +2 for int or fumb rec, +1 for sack and +6 for TD.

am i over-thinking it?

wouldnt do it, bc youll kill urself if a stat change comes in, eli throws picks, and bradshaw does fumble here and there.

Poor advice.

Look of all your players, find there stats and calc the points it should be. See if that is what they have been given and you'll know if you need to play your D or not. Remember the Vikings D has been dreadful this year. They are also starting a Jackson, which means turnovers and poor field position for the D to start with, which means easy points.

To be short, do not play that D.

I agree with the poster above.

Calculate your stats from two different sources and make sure they add up. Then I would sit the DEF, if I could. With all the craziness surrounding this game I would avoid having that defense.

thanks all. i did run through both mine and my opponents stats through both yahoo and nfl.com. everything matches up, so i think i'll play it "safe" and leave the D on the bench for the slimmest of victories.

with only D-Jax and MIN to go and trailing by 34 points, i didnt expect this dilemma 24 hours ago...

I would have sat the Defense but make sure you add everything up.
