Theisman / Millen OUT!!

Postby petedog9 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:43 pm

WOOT WOOT!! Now I can turn the sound back on during Thursday night Football.. I would like a Mayok / Johnson combo personally.. ;-D

According to SI.com's Richard Deitsch, Mike Mayock will replace Joe Theismann and Matt Millen on NFL Network's eight-game Thursday night football package this season.
Chris Wesseling, who has covered Thursday night games for Rotoworld the past couple of seasons, is dancing a jig in celebration. The league snubbed excellent in-house candidate Mayock in favor of the brutal Theismann/Millen duo last year, a sign the network was more concerned with "names" than quality. They learned their lesson, likely after just one game's worth of Theismann's goofy pontifications. Gus Johnson, the man who inspired the "Law of Gus" for close games, is also a candidate to replace play-by-play man Bob Papa

Certainly a step in the right direction. I couldn't stand listening to them.

I'm with you though. I just avoided the pregame entirely, and left the sound down during the game.

Thanks Chaoyi Shih for the sig.

I'm actually quite a fan of Mayock. I've heard people can't stand his lisp but for my money he speaks more intelligently about the game than anyone else they could put there.

It doesn't hurt that he had my favorite replay call of the post-season too. ;-D

Next to an agreement on a new CBA, I could not think of better news. As far as I was concerned, Millen should be imprisoned for impersonating someone who cares about what he is doing. That glorified basket-weaver has been mailing it in since the day he darkened the doors at Lions HQ. Any broadcast with him in it was an ABM--Anyone But Millen moment. I say that because anytime I hear him try to give an opinion about football made me think I'd rather listen to ABM.
So here's to you, NFLNetwork, for realizing you have to bury the dead, they only stink up the joint.

Running Millen is a great move. He was horrid. Made my ears hurt. I did get a chuckle when Steve Young, in his very opinionated manner, would cut Millen off and disagree with him though. It always made Millen uncomfortable that someone with a strong opinion would jump right in and call him out. ;-D

I know I'm in the minority here, but I didn't mind Theisman. He announced from a QB homer perspective, but I thought he was ok.

The more Mayock the better. I love hearing Mayock. More games, Mike.
