In a 12 team ppr 2 QB NON KEEPER - Who is your top 12 picks?

Postby JaysFan » Wed Jul 20, 2011 10:33 am

I'm trying to figure out a strategy for our draft in 4 weeks. The last few years there have been 6 or 7 QB's gone in the first round.

Who should be my top 12 rankings and why? WHIR

here is a link to the cafe's rankings.

I participated in it as well as some other knowledgable FF players. In a 2 QB league I can see 5-7 QB's going off the board in the first. Positional scarcity comes into play in a 2QB league making them more valuable then the RB. If the value is there wehn you pick, don't hesitate to grab one but there is still no need to reach for one.

Rankings in QB leagues are tricky. I think the elite QBs who should be a first or second round pick are Aaron Rodgers, Mike Vick, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, and Tony Romo.

The first three I would pursue aggressive with the top picks of the draft. After that, I'd hope for an end of the snake pick to land Brady or Rivers. Romo might not fit in with this group but you said that 6 or 7 QBs come off the board so he deserves mention. The dropoff between Tony Romo and Matt Schaub seems significant.

This league is a full point per reception though, and with everyone taking quarterbacks early, you might be able to get some value. If you can pair Andre Johnson or another elite positional player with a quarterback early then you have a solid base to work with.

The rankings are pretty flexible depending on how quickly quarterbacks are going. That being said, you should try to have at least two top 12 quarterbacks.
1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Arian Foster
3. Mike Vick
4. Drew Brees
5. Adrian Peterson
6. Chris Johnson
7. Jamaal Charles
8. Andre Johnson
9. Peyton Manning
10. Ray Rice
11. Tom Brady
12. Phillip Rivers

Honorable mentions: Calvin Johnson, LeSean McCoy, Tony Romo

In a 2QB league, I'm going to hit the QB position HARD and EARLY. My first 2 picks are almost definitely going to end up being QBs. This is the only format in which I actually follow a set draft strategy, and that's where the strategy ends.

In a 2QB League, I plan to exit the 2nd round with 2 solid QBs. Later in the draft, I'm taking a shot at Tebow, and possibly Stafford if I really like what I ended up getting at RB. QB is incredibly important in a 2 starter league, and even moreso it is important to have guys you can depend on. I'm taking pocket passers like Rivers and/or Brady, guys who are the least risk of injury combined with the highest upside and consistency.

I am pretty RB-neutral but I would say

1. Michael Vick
2. Aaron Rodgers
3. Peyton Manning
4. Drew Brees
5. Phil Rivers
6. Arian Foster
7. Tom Brady
8. Tony Romo
9. Adrian Peterson
10. Chris Johnson
11. Jamaal Charles
12. Calvin Johnson
13. Andre Johnson
14. Ben Roethlisberger (would be higher if no foot injury risk)
15. Matt Ryan
16. Matt Schaub

I think if you pick in the first half you almost have to pick a QB because you're not getting one coming back, and then you're starting John Beck all year.

Definitely try to get a top 5 QB in the first round in a 2 QB league if you pick toward the end of the round.

Ok what if the top 5 are taken? Take the next best with my first pick or wait for the wrap around?

Definitely take a QB anyway, in my mind. QBs in a 2QB league are more important than any other position in any other league. Getting 2 that are pretty much assured to start for their teams all year, even if they aren't top 5 guys, is still a great start.

I could fuss with the order, but these 12 players are my top 12 in a start-2 QB league. ;-D
