Trade / Keep - Clay Matthews vs James Laurinaitis

Postby PortlandPredators » Mon Aug 01, 2011 10:54 pm

Now that I went big with Ray Rice, I need to clear some cap room and I'm in need of a new TE. Tony Gonzalez just isn't cutting it anymore. It just so happens another owner is looking for LB help and offering Jason Witten.

My current linebackers and salary / contract

Karlos Dansby - $1.00 / Final Year
Clay Matthews - $4.15 / 3 years remaining
James Laurinaitis - $6.12 / 3 years remaining

Laurinaitis had better numbers last season and is projected higher this year. I think I'm going to offer Matthews for Witten and try to squeeze out a draft pick also.

Between the 2 I'd rather have Laurinaitis. He is worth the extra $2 vs Clay and it shows in his tackles and assists, the bread and butter of IDP scoring. I seriously doubt Clay repeats his sack season of last year, which is a big part of why he was ranked as high in fantasy as he was. No doubt a LB1 on most squads, but on your team is a LB2.

As far as the trade, how many LB do you start? Whats the point values for tackles, assists, etc? I'd almost rather keep them both.

Laurinaitis is who you would want and Venom is right that without knowing how many you start or scoring I can't comment on a deal. I can't imagine anyone taking a LB for a top 5 TE.
