Strategy for 10th pick PPR - 12 man league

Postby pundapun » Tue Aug 02, 2011 7:01 pm

I'm in a PPR league where usually the top 6-7 QBs go within the 1st/2nd rounds. It's been confirmed that 3 QBs will be selected before my 10th pick. In the 1st round, I have a strong shot to land a RB1 (JCharles,Rice,McCoy) or WR1 (Andre,Roddy). Given this scenario, would you pass on a QB in the 2nd and settle for the best available QB in the 4th/5th or grab a top tier QB?

Which strategy would you go with for the 1st 2 rounds?
1. RB/QB -- example McCoy/Rivers
2. WR/QB -- example Roddy/Rivers
3. RB/WR -- example McCoy/Fitz or Roddy/Gore
4. WR/WR -- example Roddy/Fitz
5. RB/RB -- example McCoy/Gore

Thanks.

If QBs go off the board that quickly, I would sleep on the position and collect RBs and WRs. If there are at least 3 QBs going before you, you are going to have a very nice start to your draft if you go RB-WR.

Absolutely buck the trend if they're going nuts on QBs, and don't jump on that bandwagon on the way back either. Go best position player available for the first 4-5 rounds and punish them for doing that.

No. 3 on your list would be ideal, followed by Nos. 5 and 4 (in that order) IMO. If you get McCoy at 10 that would be a major coup for sure, but don't get your heart set on it just in case. Have a loose plan and then be ready to roll with the punches and nail them for overvaluing QB like that ;-)

And don't be dead set on RB-WR either, Seriously consider going WR-RB at 10 in a 12 man league. that turn around comes quick at 10. Don't think of it as 4 picks, think of it as only 2 owners between picks and think what they are going to want, especially later in the draft.

The worst thing you can do is jump on the tail end of a trend. Let that trend push the better players down to you. If JC/RR/LM fall to you, grab them. And then grab a top WR on the way back. Load up your other positions, and a mid-range QB (Stafford, Flacco, Eli) will do you just fine.

Good luck!
