you dont need to see our financials, but here is the gist of our league. We have tweaked the rules each year as people have discovered loopholes (We moved taxi locks to 1:10pm cause people were keeping their kicker there until a minute before kickoff, then switching a guy they wanted to protect).
Also, I dont think it got added, but this year we added a new rule about new owners. Anyone picking up a team that had a losing record for the two previous years gets to pay 1/2 buy in the first year AND gets an extra two roster spots (and corresponding draft picks at 1.13 and 2.13) for the first year. Basically this was done so if we needed a replacement owner for a truely bad team they didnt have completely get hosed for a couple years (which we needed this year.)
Each Old School GridIron team will consist of 20 active roster spots plus an additional 4 taxi squad players. As this is a dynasty league, you will keep most of these players from year to year. There are no restrictions on players in these roster spots. Any new member to the league will get an exemption to this rule, as per commissioner discretion.
On August 1 following the football season, owners must reduce their rosters (active and taxi) to 18 players. These 18 players will be protected and will not be eligible for the draft. All other players will be sent to the draft pool.
The draft will be held each year on a selected date in August. The draft will consist of six rounds, straight draft style, as agreed by all owners. Draft order will be determined by the following method:
**All non-playoff teams will compete for draft order by a two week total points playoff during week 15 and 16. The highest two week total will receive the first overall pick. The second highest will receive the second pick, the third highest will receive the third pick, and so on through sixth place.
**Picks #7 through #12 will go to the teams in the Championship Playoff Bracket, utilizing the same method. The highest two week total will receive the ninth pick, the second highest will receive the tenth pick, the third highest will receive the eleventh pick, and the lowest scoring team will receive the twelfth pick.
There are two reason for this method, besides all owners agreeing and it being awesome:
It is not fun to play in a fantasy league when your team is out of the running. The second reason is to keep owners from tanking games. Under this system, there is no benefit to throwing a game ever. Simply reversing the standings to determine draft order gives an incentive for people to intentionally lose games.
The scoring system can be found by clicking “Reports” at the top of the league homepage. Next choose “Rules” and then “League Scoring.” Be sure to familiarize yourself with the scoring system prior to the draft.
Lineups will be submitted at the league site. All lineups are due prior to kickoff of the first Sunday game of the week. The exception to this is any starting player who has a game earlier than Sunday. These starters must be submitted prior to kickoff of that game. The rest of the lineup can be submitted on Sunday. Monday night starters must be declared on Sunday.
Starting lineups will consist of up to 9 active players, and one backup player. If one of your players does not play and you need to utilize your backup player, it is the owner's responsibility to post a message on the league message board informing the commissioner of your request. At each owner's discretion, you may start fewer than nine players during any week (the Dave Cichocki rule). In order to allow roster flexibility to league owners, the Old School GridIron will allow for the following three legal starting lineup formations:
1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE,
1 K, 1 D/ST
RUN AND SHOOT
1 QB, 1 RB, 5 WR, 0 TE,
1 K, 1 D/ST
1 QB, 3 RB, 1 WR, 2 TE,
1 K, 1 D/ST
Owners are responsible for submitting legal lineups. The site will allow you to submit illegal lineups (ex. 3 RB, 3 WR). If you submit an illegal lineup, you will receive an automatic loss for the week. In addition, you will lose half of your week’s points toward the Total Points ranking. There are no mistakes, so make sure that your lineups are legal before submitting them.
FREE AGENCY & WAIVER WIRE
Free agency begins when the draft ends. Free agents will be signed on a first come, first served basis. All free agents pickups will be handled at the league website. A date after the draft
After kickoff of the first game of the week, free agency is locked and the waiver wire kicks into effect. Owners can submit waiver requests up until Wednesday night 11 p.m.. As voted upon by the league, the waiver wire will roll over from season to season. As a team is granted a waiver request, that team will be moved to the end of the waiver list. Owners can pick up a maximum of 8 players from waivers per week. Free agents may be picked up beginning at 11:30., all players will enter the free agent pool and can be picked up immediately up until kickoff of the first game of the following week.
Dropped players will enter the waiver pool for a period of one day following their release. After one day, dropped players will become free agents. Waivers and free agency will be locked after kickoff of the first game of NFL week 17.
Owners may trade freely; however, all trades must be approved by the commissioner. There will be no league vote. Please realize, we cannot make a rule to defend stupid owners. No one has the knowledge (or the right) to dictate the future outcome of any possible trade. The only reason that a trade will be vetoed is in case of suspected collusion. As the penalty for collusion is immediate removal from the league, we are sure that there will be none of it.
Owners may also trade draft picks for two future seasons. Try to make trades with enough time to allow the commissioner to approve them before the week’s games start.
All trades must be completed upon conclusion of the week 13 games. There will be no trading during the playoffs.
All completed trades will be processed up until noon on Sunday. Trades accepted after that will be processed for the following week.
ACTIVE ROSTER & TAXI SQUAD
Teams will have 20 active players and 4 taxi squad positions. Only active players can be used in a starting lineup. Owners can move players freely between active and taxi rosters.
Any player on a taxi squad can be claimed immediately by another owner. Owners who wish to take a player on another team’s taxi squad must do so by posting a message on the league message board making their claim. Taxi Squad claims will be permitted until 1:10 on Sunday afternoon, and we will utilize the site's time stamp for all claims. Taxi Squads will then reopen upon conclusion of the waiver period. Also, if a player is involved in a pending trade or you have stolen him off of a taxi squad and planning on starting him for two weeks, you may not put him on the taxi squad.
There is a penalty for claiming players from another owner’s taxi squad. If you take a taxi squad player you must choose between one of the following:
1. Starting that player for 2 consecutive weeks (unless the player is on a bye). Players must still be started if injured.
2. Forfeiting any one of your next year’s draft picks to the owner who had previously owned the player.
Taxi squads will be locked after kickoff of the first game of NFL week 17.
Players who are seriously injured and are placed on IR by their NFL teams can also be placed on IR in the Old School GridIron. Players on IR are out for the year including playoffs. These players will not count against an active or taxi squad roster. You may not pick up a free agent who is on injured reserve.
We will redraw for new divisional alignments every third season.
OLD SCHOOL GRIDIRON BYLAWS
Throughout the year, we may need to adjust some of the bylaws to make the league as fun as possible for all owners. We will NOT change bylaws during the season. After the season, the commissioner will make changes as needed. We will continue to discuss all suggestions as a league. Please post your suggestion on the message board and email me
