8th PICK? thoughts

Postby TheBull » Wed Aug 17, 2011 4:11 pm

I have the 8th pick in a 12 team redraft. NO PPR.

6 PTS for ALL TD's
1 pt for 15 yds rush/rec
1 pt for 50 yds passing.

*We start QB/RB/RB/WR/WR/FLEX/TE/K/D

I am seriously considering taking D-Mac @8, and then in the second grabbing Blount. Both are the focal point of their respective offenses. I know DMac has some durability questions, but i like him more than the like of Mendy/Turner/Gore/SJax.

What are your thoughts?

I like Darren McFadden but I'd rather draft Rashard Mendenhall.

Mendenhall comes without the injury risk that Run DMC has and actually benefits a little more from your scoring system. Mendenhall is not a burner like McFadden. If McFadden can endure a seasons worth of carries, I'd speculate that he has a decent chance to rack up more yards than Mendy. However, yardage is a bit discounted in this league (1 point per 15 compared to the standard 1 per 10) so that puts a little more emphasis on touchdowns. Mendenhall is one of the main RZ options on a strong offense. As far as RBs go I'd have to think he is as safe of a lock for double digit TDs besides Adrian Peterson as there is in the NFL.

The two players are very close. I have Mendenhall as my 6th back in non-PPR and McFadden as my 7th, so you can't really go wrong. McFadden is certainly explosive but its hard to ignore the injury possibility. I would take Mendenhall over Gore, SJax, and Turner, just not Mendy. Mendenhall just seems a bit safer, even if it comes with a lower ceiling.

And as far as your next pick, I'm all for going RB/RB this year.

do you think Blount is a huge reach in the 2nd rd with my pick?

I think Blount is a reach in the second, yes.

But you have the 8th, 17th, and 32nd overall pick in the first three rounds assuming that this is a standard snake redraft. I think he will most likely be gone by 32nd overall, so if you want him that's where you are going to have to take him. At 17th overall I think you have a shot at Matt Forte, Frank Gore, or Steven Jackson. I'd rather have those 3 backs than Blount, especially Forte. However that is just my personal preference/reasoning.

Yeah I suppose the same thing I said for Medenhall goes for Blount. SJax and Forte won't score as much as Blount, so that needs to be taken into account. The reason I labeled it a "reach" is simply because Blount lacks a track record. The upside is solid and the production could be there. If you left the first two rounds with either McFadden and Mendenhall and then Blount, that would be a solid start.

Mendenhall is coming off the heaviest workoad of any RB in the NFL too. I am not sold on Mendy.

Here is another question?

QB's are 1 pt for 50 yds passing 6 pts ALL TD's maybe go with Brady in rd 2.

Mendenhall is still just 24. The workload is big, but I don't think he's burnt out yet.

I'd rather draft Blount in the second than Brady.

Blount at that point of round 2 is lunacy. There will be 5-7 backs available there I'd take over him.
