Most Physical Receivers?

Postby RJason » Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:20 pm

I'm seeing trends with guys like Britt, Harvin, Boldin, Cobb, Fitzgerald, Andre Johnson, Dez, Mike Williams, Finley, even Colston. Pure physicality seems to often times win out. To the point that QBs will throw at a man who is tightly covered as long as it's only single coverage.

So, I'm just curious who else you guys think are PURE BEASTS at wide receiver. Who is the most unstoppable talent, ignoring QB and team situation, just pure ability.

You would have to put Megatron in that list.

Also, many of the younger tight ends.....Gresham comes to mind. The older guys like Gates and Gonzalez used to be like this, but in with their age, they're becoming more finesse.
RIDERS OF THE STORM
QB Vick
RB Adrian Peterson, Matt Forte, Lesean McCoy
WR Brandon Marshall, Kenny Britt

One of the best in my opinion ... if he could keep his head on straight ..

Brandon Marshall - kid is pure strength when it comes to recievers. They didn't name him "The Beast" for nothing!!!

Harvin? Cobb? These guys aren't physical at all. Those are speed receivers that do not like physical match ups with corners.

Yeah, I see your point about Harvin and Cobb... I think I was mentally grouping them in with Boldin as small but VERY scrappy.

Maybe, Hakeem Nicks and Miles Austin.

Actually, I'd put him at #1 on my list of most physical receivers.

Are we talking about receivers who have a physical style of play or just the most physically talented receivers? You started out talking like you meant more of the physical style of play but the last statement seemed aimed more at just physically talented receivers in general.

If you mean the first then you can't include guys like Harvin and Cobb and especially not compare them to a physical beast like Anquan Boldin who is 2-3 inches taller than those guys and weights 30-40 lbs more. I would say my list includes these guys:

Calvin Johnson
Larry Fitzgerald
Anquan Boldin
Hines Ward
Brandon Marshall
Andre Johnson
Marques Colston
Kenny Britt

Calvin Johnson.

Everybody else.

If you were to start from scratch in an effort to build the protypical "perfect" WR, you would come up with a clone of Megatron.

He's 6'5" (nearly 6'6"), runs a 4.35 40, has a 42.5" vertical, and a 7' wingspan.

He's as big as some TE's & faster than most WR's.

He's strong enough to run people over or drag them behind him.

He's fast enough to beat basically anybody deep.

He's big enough to work the middle or be an absolute nightmare in the redzone.

He's got the hands, agility, and body control to make absurd circus catches.

If he and Stafford both stay healthy this year, he has a legitmate shot at 20 TD catches.
