Wayne for Austin?

Postby sweettortilla » Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:19 pm

I'm thinking of offering Reggie Wayne for Miles Austin, straight up.

Wayne is stuck in anemic Indy offense, but at least he's the #1 weapon.

Austin is awesome...if he's healthy. He'll be out until Week 6 or so, by many reports. And then there's no guarantees that his injury doesn't flare up again and again.

What do you think? Take the risk, give up on Wayne & go after Austin? Or stay put with the ole reliable vet and hope Indy gets something together?

It's definitely a tough call. It seems as though Wayne is running more underneath routes now and Collins has been getting him the ball so far. I know it's only been 2 weeks, but so far Wayne's production hasn't really dropped off too much. I'd say hold onto him for now, at least until Austin is back and healthy. Just ask yourself who has a bigger battle for targets. Wayne battles Clark for targets, whereas Austin battles Witten and Bryant.

I also don't think I would do this trade. Austin has a lot of competition for targets and is likely out 4-5 weeks. He's possibly an upgrade over Wayne but not by much, assuming Kerry Collins can stay healthy. I'd say don't offer it, unless you've got a lot of WR depth.

Mind taking a look at my situation? http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=498215

I think you stand pat in this situation. #1 target's in bad offenses can still be good for fantasy. We had that question about Wayne before the season. Would he be a Megatron (can put up numbers regardless of QB play) or a Steve Smith (can't do anything without good QB play)? He looks to be the former. With a solid WR in hand, I'd be scared of dealing for a guy known to be injured.

It depends on how solid you are otherwise. If you can fill your flex spot every week without Wayne, then I'd go ahead and take a shot on Austin, cause he's definitely the one who has a chance at winning you a super bowl. If it's going to cost you 3 or 4 games because you don't have any other good plays until he gets back, though, then I'd say stick with Wayne.
