Manning is far and away a better pure downfield passer than Mcnair.
And everyone listen up here, because as a gator fan, you will never hear me speak kindly about manning again.
Manning is the type of guy who will see his receiver before he makes his break, and throw the ball on a bullet 40 yards downfield hitting the guy in stride. His deep balls are much "prettier" and flat.
Mcnair's downfield passing tends to be a bit lobbish, sometimes they come out odd, but they always get to the spot they need to be.
Not taking anything away from Mcnair here, but his long TD passes seem more like ok, my guy's 45 yards downfield and I haven't thrown it yet, so now I'm gonna heave it as far and high as I can, and they often come on broken plays after he's scrambled or broken a tackle and the secondary has broken down. Manning, on the other hand, is more finesse. 3-5 step drop, plant, fire. The guy's about to break on his post, guns the ball 35 yards on a rope in between two defenders so that his receiver catches it in perfect stride and can run the rest of the way.
Like people have said, Pennington is getting better and better, but I still think he's a ways away from Manning atm.
Like I said, I friggin HATE Manning because he's a Vol, but he is the perfect prototipical dropback quarterback, and it really irks me :p
I think all three of these guys are in running but I still think Manning gets the nod. He is a very accurate QB. Penny could be with a little more experience, McNair is a little bit away, IMO.
I would have to agree with the majority and say I think Manning is the best downfield passer, at least currently. He has been awesome this year and has pulled comebacks out of nowhere! He definitely is a stud and a master at the pass!
