We have guys give up in our league every year. It's kind of pathetic really. We've talked 2 habitual "quitters" into leaving and hopefully have replaced them with better players, but time will tell.
The goofy thing is, it's only a ten team league. I mean, you only have to make the top 4 teams by week 14 to make the 2 week playoffs.

I have found that if you charge 250$ a person and throw out a grand for first place that people will not give up.

Haha, yeah that may change perspective a bit I bet!
We only buy in for $50, and we're all friends in a 10 team league. Of course every waiver/trade move is $2 so that adds up as well.
Well despite these success stories, I would say it is (obviously) preferable to have better records than opposed to poor ones as my 5-0 team last year ended up winning at all, while the 1-4 team missed the playoffs. However I have started 1-3 and ended up reaching the championship game 2 years ago so I agree don't give up on your team despite a poor start.
I'm 0-3 . . . with this team. . . . It's amazing . . . . no matter you stomping your team looks on paper, you can still get hosed. Home I can climb back in it.
QBs - Roethlisberger, Grossman RBs - Peterson, Mendenhall, F Jones, Wells, Lynch, Starks WRs - VJax, S Johnson, M Williams, M Thomas TEs - Gronkowski, Davis D/ST - CHI K - Cundiff
It's time to put down the crack-pipe and step away from the keyboard.
