Who is James Casey (HOU - RB,TE)?

Postby ramble2 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:20 am

I'm always a bit intrigued by dual eligibility guys. Aside from a Sleeper article on Casey last year (http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/2010 ... _casey.php) I didn't really see anything about Casey on the Cafe. Anyone with a bit more familiarity in HOU know much about this guy? He seemed to make the most of his opportunity on Sunday, though I don't know whether to expect he'll continue to play any significant role in the HOU offense.

I believe he's an H-back of sorts. With the depth they have at TE, he primarily plays more of the FB role. But he catches like a TE and is dangerous out of the back field. At least as dangerous as backup players can be.

I think what you saw Sunday wasn't typical. They clearly found a weakness they wanted to exploit and the defense never adjusted or recognized the need to cover him. Until Owen Daniels gets hurt, I doubt he has much value going forward.

The only reason a RB/TE would be especially valuable would be if that player was being used as primarily as a RB. Being able to start a RB in your TE position would be a huge boost whereas the reverse would be a non-advantage. In James Casey's case, he is a TE/FB combo kind of player. He may get the odd carry here or there, but he's not going to be a factor in the crowded Houston backfield. As far as he's concerned, you might as well consider him strictly a TE and figure his value based on that. The RB eligibility doesn't really help.
