Tie Breaking Format?

Postby Da Rook » Tue Dec 02, 2003 9:27 am

I am in a 12 Team/3 Divison League. I am searching for the best tie breaking format to use to end the season. Please go to as many levels as possible, as there could be interdivion ties for the Wild Card Spot. I am looking for at least 5-6 levels of tie breakers.

Thanks!!!

The way we do it is we have the first tie-breaker be the head-to-head matchups. The next tie-breaker is the division record, and the third tie-breaker is number of points scored ... if all of those are equal, then I'm not sure what happens - maybe they arm-wrestle over it

(Hey, take that bag off man, we beat the Titans!)

After that, you can just go highest points scored in week 14, if that's a tie, week 13, etc.

We go points scored, head to head and then divisional record. Fantasy football is too much luck and by making head to head your first tie breaker you are placing more emphasis on the luck factor then on the 'skill' factor.

For example you have to teams both 7-6, one team has 1200 points scored and the other has 800. If the team with 800 pts beat the team with 1200 he goes if the first tie breaker was h2h. That means a team that averages 61 pts a game beat out a team that averages 92 pts a game. The best team is obviously not going to make the playoffs.

What about:

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games if applicable.
Best net points in division games.
Best net points in all games.
Strength of schedule.
Best net touchdwons in all games.
Coin Toss.

Head to Head (mirrors the NFL)
Pts Scored
Most Points against
Power Ranking (CBS Sportsline Leagues)
Best Second Half record or points

Instead of coin toss, have the two teams give you # between 1 and 13 or 14. Divide by two to get a # and the team who scored the most points that week wins. Use the # before the decimal pt or round.
Any given Sunday...

1. head to head (minimum of 2 matchups)
2. overall points
3. best conference record
4. most points in head to head machups (min. 2)
5. most points in last 3 weeks
5. highest scoring week
6. coin toss

meh, i hope some of those might help you out.

Yahoo does it by points, so that's what we go by.
If somehow the points are equal, then h2h.
