What am I doing wrong? Roster/Trade Help!

Postby Deficio » Tue Sep 27, 2011 11:33 am

Warning - Long post!

Posted this in the Trade/Draft section as well.

Hello everyone. Been a member here since I started fantasy football this season, enjoyed it alot and also made a few posts here and there. I have now gotten into a big problem, and I hope you people wanna try and sort it out with me. I'm thinking this can be more of a discussion thread.

Right, abit about my team. I'm currently 0-3 (which is by far not what I expected), so I have to find out whats wrong about my team, and how I can improve it the best.

Putting up my team, draft rank and what I traded the player for (if I traded him that is).

Playing in a 10 man league. 2 QB's, 2 RB's, 1 flex, 2 WR's, 1 TE and a defence.

QB points:
Every 10 passing yards (PY10) 0.5
TD Pass (PTD) 3
40+ yard TD pass bonus (PTD40) 2
Interceptions Thrown (INT) -2
2pt Passing Conversion (2PC) 2

RB points:
Rushing Yards (RY) 0.1
TD Rush (RTD) 6
40+ yard TD rush bonus (RTD40) 2
2pt Rushing Conversion (2PR) 2

WR/TE points:
Receiving Yards (REY) 0.1
Each reception (REC) 0.5
TD Reception (RETD) 6
40+ yard TD rec bonus (RETD40) 2
2pt Receiving Conversion (2PRE) 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
My team, drafts and trades.

QB's:
- Cam Newton (My nr. 10 draft) - Surprised everyone with his performance the first 2 weeks. I had him benched for week 2, stupid me.
- Matthew Stafford (Got Stafford + Steven Jackson for Frank Gore + Jay Cutler) - My best QB, and probly best player.
- Matt Ryan (My nr. 3 draft) - Bad move by me, shouldnt have drafted Matt Ryan this early, but expected a season for him like last year, and most of the QB's was already being picked.

RB's:
- Steven Jackson (Got Stafford + Steven Jackson for Frank Gore + Jay Cutler) - Had his problems with injuirys, but should be up and running for Week 4.
- Peyton Hillis (Got Peyton Hillis + Dez Bryant for Roddy White + Danny Woodhead) - Was out Week 3, which really hurt my team, but hopefully he wont have too many problems in the future.
- Mark Ingram (My nr. 4 draft) - I know, drafting Ingram as nr. 4 was insanely stupid. It's my first year playing Fantasy Football, and I had big hopes for him. People started talking in the chat about getting him, so I just thought - Fuck it, I want him. I could have drafted alot smarter, but yeah.
- Montario Hardesty - Waivers, he replaced Braylon Edwards. Got him for Week 3 as Hillis was out.

WR's:
- Steve Smith (My nr. 9 draft) - Not much say, really good player, but needs Newton to stay at the top
- Dez Bryant (Got Peyton Hillis + Dez Bryant for Roddy White + Danny Woodhead) - Was Questionable for Redskins game, he did play but didnt do much.
- Brandon Lloyd (My nr. 6 draft) - Have no idea what to do with Lloyd right now.
- Nate Burleson, Mike Williams & David Nelson (bills) are my "backup" WR's (None of them drafted)

TE's:
- Jermichael Finley (My nr. 5 draft) - Had two slow games, then went crazy against the Bears, stupid of me, I had him benched!
- Rob Gronkowski (My nr. 11 draft) - Love him, and he played instead of Finley @ week 3.

Defence:
- Packers D
- Giants D

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trades:

There is a trade up right as I make this post - Philip Rivers + Tim Hightower for my Cam Newton + Mark Ingram + Brandon Lloyd. I personally dont like it too much, I believe Mark Ingram will step up and Brandon Lloyd hopefully will get better, making this a bad trade for me. Anyway, what do you think?

Ahmad Bradshaw & Steve Johnson (Bills) are both in reach for me as well, its from another manager tho. How much should I be ready to sacrifice to get them?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right, if you are still reading. I think I have a decent roster, my main problem is missing a superstar RB, who I know will bring in atleast 15 points a week. I'm abit unsure about my WR's at the same time, they seem to bounce alot. Would like thoughts and comments about possible trades and who to keep/who to trade away. If people want lineups for the first 3 weeks, then I can post them in. But a lost game is a lost game, what I'm trying to find out, is where to improve the team for the next weeks. Hope people can help.

Thanks alot in advance.

Considering you made some bonehead moves during your draft (hey, it happens when you're just starting!), I don't think your team is in terrible shape.

You're okay at QB since you can start 2. If you were in a 1 QB league I would definitely trade one away (probably Cam Newton while he's still hot), but I wouldn't make any moves here.

Your WR's are okay, but I could see some troubles developing here. Steve Smith is going balls out right now, but like you said, it really depends on Newton having success. He's bound to see a slump at some point this season and Smith's performance will drop with it. Bryant and Lloyd are good but seem kind of boom or bust to me...Bryant would be my WR2 most weeks. You've also got some nice options at backup here.

Peyton Hillis and Steven Jackson are a good RB tandem if they can stay healthy. I also have Ingram and can't figure out what I want to do with him.

TE is your strongest position. If you can start a TE at your flex I'd hang on to both. If not, I might look at packaging one of them with S. Jackson to try and upgrade at RB.
