I have Pettigrew as my TE so I'd obviously love to be able to stash Gates in case Pettigrew continues to be mediocre (which I am starting to think will be the case even with Stafford breaking out this year). But is he worth #3 priority or do I gamble that he clears waivers? Decent players get dropped a bit too often in this league so priority comes in handy as the season goes on (most recent example was Santonio Holmes). Will gladly help in return if you leave a link.
By the way, I'd likely be dropping Delone Carter, although I do think he starts getting more carries later this year for one reason or another.

If Gates clears waivers then the owners in your league are fools. Even if he were out to week 7 I'd gamble on him. Therefore I'd rule against doing so. That being said, Pettigrew's value under Stafford is less than it was under Hill last season. I would check the waiver wire for a 3rd TE option.

Is your priority set until you make a move or will it change week to week? If it's going to change week to week sure take the gamble. But if it's locked in I wouldn't do it. You say guys get dropped more often in your league than they should. Something better should come along the wire.
QB- Roethlisberger, Rivers, Foles RB- McCoy, Lynch, L James, Ivory, F Jackson, D Thomas, Turbin WR- Julio, Bowe, D Bryant, D Jax, Amendola, Broyles, Gordon, Hill TE- Celek, D Allen DEF- Giants K- Zuerlin D- D Washington, S Weatherspoon, L Kuechly
Now I'm slightly torn but leaning toward picking him up. I always wait too long on my WW priority and end up at the end of the season with the #1 priority. But on other hand, I'm legitimately concerned about his status this year. Thanks to all those that chimed in and I'd love to hear from anyone else out there.

I agree with this, sounds like its a locked in wire, in which case I'm really concerned about Gates availability the rest of the season. If he clears, which he probably wont, then you can grab him. But where you say players that shouldnt get dropped get dropped, I'd keep your priority, what if CJ or mendy gets dropped?
I'd definitely use the #3 claim on Gates. If he heals up after the bye week in week 6, he's a mammoth upgrade over Pettigrew for you the rest of the way. There is no way he'll clear waivers, so snatch and stash.
I mean, it's not like stars are getting dropped on the regular is it?
I got trumped for him by #2, who dropped Kellen Winslow (he also had Tony Gonzalez). Any value in dropping Pettigrew for Winslow? I lean toward sticking with Pettigrew (Stafford is my QB). Thanks.

I wouldn't use #2 WW priority on Winslow in a million years if great players are dropped as often as you say. I consider Winslow as solid, but not someone worth a high waiver claim because he doesn't improve you significantly.
