O'Leary leaving Vikings to coach U of Central Florida
Kevin Seifert,
Star Tribune

Published December 8, 2003 OLEA09

The University of Central Florida has hired Vikings defensive coordinator George O'Leary as its next head coach, team officials confirmed, and the appointment is expected to be made official this afternoon.

O'Leary likely will remain with the Vikings for the duration of the season but could split time between jobs. He was traveling to Orlando on Monday and unavailable for comment.

UCF has been pursuing O'Leary for more than two weeks, but O'Leary repeatedly downplayed his interest in the job. But athletic director Steve Orsini, who worked with O'Leary at Georgia Tech, continued to pursue him and nearly doubled his initial offer.

The Orlando Sentinel reported O'Leary and his staff will be paid more than $2 million, with O'Leary receiving at least $700,000.

Considering the Vikings' woes on Defense, perhaps a part time coordinator isn't what the doctor ordered. Congrats to O'Leary, though.

There oughta be a special double bag made for that one. I now have extra reason to root for the Rams to win on MNF.

No, we never agreed to that deal. Notice us all agreeing on the "original deal."

11-3, made the playoffs 2 weeks ago with the best record. Just glad the Vikings finally won after they have been playing HORRIBLE, and just want to rub it into the Seahawk fans.

I wasn't. My team is the Oilers and since they don't play anymore I'm kind of in a football vaccum.

Seahawks are proof that no matter how many weapons you have on offense, your team can't overcome a horrible defense.

...Kind of reminds me of a team that has been in Minnesota the last five or six years. I think they wore purple or something. Terrible defense! Lot's of bad seasons... What was that team again...? :-? Y'know, I think I've seen them this year a few times and their defense was still awful!

Bring it don't sing it.

There is the original deal. A viking fan tried to make it beyond THIS year. The original PB match WAS to wear a PB until your team qualifies for the playoffs (or until the end of the season, I assume).

No welching, Seahawk fans! PB's until the Seahawks are in!

He's right.

Glad I didn't join until after that game.

My search for an avatar continues.
