Garcon for Greene?

Postby outsideoftime » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:26 pm

14 teams- Yahoo h2h- Standard Cats (Return yards count)

I have just been offered RB Shonn Greene for WR Pierre Garcon. Should I take it?

My thoughts...

Take it, because I picked Garcon off the Free Agent list, it's like being offered free money
Don't take it, Garcon is on fire and my WR core is not deep
Take it, because my running back situation is bad (drafted Jamaal Charles & Peyton Hillis traded for McFadden)
Don't take it, Greene shares a bye week with McFadden (week 8) and I'll be sunk that week

The Shonn Greene owner is countering my offer of Brandon Marshall & Delone Carter for Beanie Wells.
He also has Arian Foster & Frank Gore.

Thanks for the help...

My team
-------------------------------------------
QB- Tony Romo, Tim Tebow
WR- Brandon Marshall, Randall Cobb
WR- A.J. Green, Jacoby Ford
RB- Darren McFadden, Delone Carter
RB- Ryan Grant
TE- Antonio Gates, Jake Ballard
FLX- Pierre Garcon
FLX- David Nelson
K- David Akers
DEF- Oakland

I agree you need to look to improve at RB. I also agree that this is a fair deal to the extent that Garcon has overachieved so far and Greene would at least be someone getting regular carries in return for a WR who could easily quickly regress to WR3 type status based on a shaky QB situation.

That said, I still wouldn't do it. I have more faith in Garcon's ability to continue to outperform his draft expectations than I do Greene's ability to not be a bum, ever. Greene is the epitome of a guy who should be seizing a prime job on a good team with a coach that likes to run, and instead keeps not being able to fend off a veteran (albeit a future hall-of-fame one).

My guess is you're actually likely to get more people telling you to take this than not, and maybe I'm just biased having been burned by Greene before, but I'd look for other options.

BOLD PICKS FOR 2013
A. Rodgers outscores D. Brees in ESPN standard scoring by 40+.
D. McFadden plays 16 games (but ineffectively for someone whose only problem we always assumed was health).
M. Lynch=not a Top 10 RB.
V. Cruz=Top 7 WR.
G. Tate=Top 36 WR.

Do you still have Hillis?
QB- Tony Romo, Tim Tebow
WR- Brandon Marshall, Randall Cobb
WR- A.J. Green, Jacoby Ford
RB- Darren McFadden, Delone Carter
RB- Ryan Grant
TE- Antonio Gates, Jake Ballard
FLX- Pierre Garcon
FLX- David Nelson
K- David Akers
DEF- Oakland

I'd take that you don't have another RB-2 on your roster. Greene might suck eggs but at least he can start at RB-2 for you. And I agree with the poster about being burnt. Still you want someone who is guarenteed carries and that's it. He may never burn the house down but 20 carries 90 yards and a score is solid production out of your RB-2 slot. Come on Carter, Grant, and Hillis? Where is he?

I traded Hillis and Josh Freeman for McFadden.

I figured McFadden was more valuable than Hillis by far and that I wouldn't be playing Freeman again

So yeah now I have to decide if Garcon is worth Greene. I almost think Garcon will outperfrom Brandon Marshall the rest of the way. Am I crazy?

So you hate Greene but in my situation you would still trade for him?
