Check out myfantasyleague.com. You control the look of your site and manage your league, they do all the work with stats etc. They have different packages available and it is not very expensive- well worth it considering the time it would take to do your own stats and/ or coding. I am in a keeper league that uses this service and we all split the cost so with 12 teams it came out like 6 bucks each.

Ah, I knew I remembered someone asking, but I couldn't find it.

Do you have any idea how they went about using yahoo+yahoo groups to make it?

It seems the most popular stat script is available at http://www.fflm.com/ for $55/year.
