Would this be wrong? Or good strategy?

Postby loydchristmas » Thu Dec 04, 2003 3:36 am

I am in first place right now and our playoff weeks are 15 and 16.
One of my main competitors is in 5th place right now.
He has a strong team and averages 2nd most points.
Would it be wrong for me to bench my good players to try and get another guy into the playoffs and keep him out?
Only 4 make our playoffs and i am playing one of the guys who is in a 3 way tie for 2nd.
Thanks.

Yep.....that would be wrong. It is one thing too "throw" a game too get a better playoff matchup (as a previous thread is discussing)...but too throw a game too keep a team out of the playoffs altogether is not right IMO.

If this is a fun league then don't do it..but if you are playing for money, then it is not wrong at all..you play to win and if keeping this guy out helps you..then you do it.

Are you friends with all the people? It does matter. If you don't know them do it, but if you have to see them, don't do it.

I just feel that in money leagues you play for the money, in fun leagues you play for fun..I have seen a lot of dirty things done in money leagues but most people keep playing, because you play to win...

I can see some poeple doing that if it was for money or fun !

However, I wouldnt do it and I have never seen it happen in one of my leagues.

IMO, it is strictly bush-league to throw a game for any reason. Seems to me that you could get some seriously bad mojo for doing it.

If it is a money league, you could be sure that you would not be invited back next year. If it was not, what's the fun in throwing games?
