I'm faced with a similar situation this weekend. I'm currently in first place in my league. The team likely to secure the last playoff spot has been on fire lately, with both Portis and Faulk on his team and finally getting healthy. I could lose this weekend and likely drop to second place and not face the hot team in the first round of the playoffs.
I'm planning on going about business as usual though and starting my regular players, but only after a lot of back-and-forth thoughts on the issue.
Gee, can't wait for the mods to pluck the post out of here that needs to go... anyway, to answer the question:
I have no problem with taking steps to help yourself out, but I do agree with emaja that strategy like that ends up biting you in the but. Say you lose, but one of the other teams tied for second loses, this guy in 5th wins to move to 4th, and you play him anyway. Plus, he'll now you tried to sabotage him and he'll be pissed. You've gained nothing. This time of year, play your best and ride it out, I think....

However, I wouldnt do it and I have never seen it happen in one of my leagues.
Homey just because you don't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
So if you really feel this will better your chances on winning there's no problem with doing it, but maybe you should do it in a descrete way, look for reasons i.e. better match ups or nicked up players, some excuse to justify yourself so you don't look like a total poopy head.
PSS, we can cus oh boy i can't till my next when i can spell the F word

Be carefull. Stuff like that has a tendency to come back and bite you in the ass. I always play every game to win no matter where I am. My theory is that I want to play the best and beat them. By artificiallly manipulating your team like that you run the risk of pissing people in your league off. Then when it comes trade time or something, they are less friendly to you. Several guys in my league have developed the reputation as "willing to do anything to win" and they are blackballed by many of us when it comes to trades. They tend to float to the bottom of the standings before too long. One guy is notorious for it and has been kept in the basement for three years now.
You do what you have to do to win:
perfect analogy: in baskeball, coaches often ask players to intentionally miss a free throw in the final second of a game to force a difficult shot by the opponent...
you're just thinking ahead
